We open with a Whap! CW's looking like shit, courtesy of Linc's fists. That doesn't appear to be working and Michael says they can't force CW to call SOG and say that they're dead, SOG would hear the fear in CW's voice. I'm not sure CW's capable of feeling fear, but whatever. Bellick says they better think of something and quick, 'cuz Malcontent Melancholy Mahone is chompin' at the bit to have, uh, words, with CW.

SOG's still a bitchy drama queen as Lisa informs him it'll take three days to move Scylla, as it's so delicate. A lackey reports that CW is still not answering his phone and has his head bitten off. Like, thanks. SOG orders the roomful of boring counterfeiters to saturate the media with photos of the brothers. I'm on board with that.

WOTUS. Self arrives, metal briefcase in hand.

New new credits.

Back to WOTUS. Doc chats with CW, while Michael apprehensively keeps watch. The others ask how Self took care of Roland and Linc huffs that they should just toss his crap out. Bellick's all, "Woah, dude, the guy just died." Linc spits that Roland was a rat. Note to self: never rat out Linc. Michael changes the subject to the blueprints and says he needs the rest of the pages currently in JLOK's possession. Self tells them to get started with what they've got.

So they head on over to Gate. T-Bag's is to stay in his office and keep others out while our boys tunnel. Once they're inside the New Tunnel of Love, T-Bag's boss, White, hustles in. He's positively perplexed (say that three times real fast) because of AA's resignation. He says AA's fiancee is worried. T-Bag plays dumb. Then calls JLOK to whine. She tells him to chill.

WOTUS. Mahone barrels towards CW's holding cell, but Self holds him back. Mahone spouts some stuff about losing a child and Self says he knows what it's like. His wife was pregnant, there were complications, the doctor screwed up and both died. He promises Mahone that once they get what they want from CW, Mahone can do what he wants.

New Tunnel of Love. Remember when Sucre was shot last episode? Yeah, neither do the writers.

WOTUS. Doc and CW are still chatting. He says he can help her and Michael, all it'll take is a phone call. She leaves him in the cell.

Gate. Boobs alerts T-Bag to a cop investigating AA's disappearance.

New Tunnel of Love. It's rather dark, therefore I'm losing interest. It's the pretty that holds my attention and keeps me coming back for more. The boys wonder what about a strange, loud sound. They reach the end of the tunnel and encounter a huge-ass pipe, carrying 30,000 gallons of water, per Michael's estimation. They can't go over it and risk tunneling that close to the surface so Michael suggests they go under. They get to whacking (dirty!).

And they can be heard aaaalll the way into T-Bag's office. The cop asks about the banging and clanging and T-Bag natters on about earthquakes and pipes. The cop brings up the fact that AA and T-Bag didn't get along. So T-Bag suggests that maybe AA had a little something on the side.

WOTUS. Self's computering and Mahone asks if they still have that ambulance.

New Tunnel of Love. Bellick complains that he's kicking Sucre's ass in the digging department and he's got a decade on him. Sucre: "I got shot, Brad." "Oh. Yeah." Hah! The guys realize they'll never be able to go under so they have to go through the huge-ass pipe.

The boys are still at work as T-Bag's spinning yarns for the cop. Bellick and Linc exit the storage closet while the cop and White are in T-Bag's office. Wade Williams puts the most perfect "D'oh!" look on his face. He mumbles about needing more tools or some such. T-Bag covers, saying he hired them to put in shelving in his storage closet.

WOTUS. Self smugly plays a message for CW, pieced together from his conversation with Doc. It simply says that he killed the brothers. Since they don't need him to make the call...Self suggests to Doc that they take a walk. She shoots a glance at Mahone, then stomps away. Oh, goody, more torture. It's not that I'm against torture scenes, if it's a way of advancing the plot, I'll go with it. This definitely serves a purpose, it'll give Mahone closure (maybe). But this show has done torture so many times, to so many characters, for a myriad of reasons, or no reason whatsoever (cough, JLOK whipping Doc, cough), I'm kinda over it. Though, like I said, I'm totally on board with Mahone here. If someone did that to my child, I would not want to take their life in return. Instead, I would want to cause them the maximum amount of pain I possibly could without killing them. I'd want them to heal. Suffer through recovery. Then I'd want to do it again. And again. Some more. And continue doing that until there was nothing left of them but an empty shell. I'm not saying it's right, but it's what I would want. Okay, let's move on. Mahone tells us, 'cuz CW already knows this, as he's the one who killed Cameron, that the boy was first shot in the stomach. It didn't kill him, but caused great agony. Five minutes later, as his mother watched, he was shot in the head. Mahone swears that once they're done, CW will give Callie a call.

SOG's prepping a press release stating that the brothers are in LA. He gets "CW"'s message and says the press release is no longer necessary. A lackey thinks, "Great, I've spent the last twenty minutes putting that together for you even after you bit my head off, dickwad!" Said lackey must be overjoyed when JLOK enters, gun drawn and orders everyone out. She says the access codes haven't changed, they're still both of SOG's daughters's birthdays. SOG says it's okay, everyone can leave as JLOK won't hurt him. Once they're alone he tells her, "I knew you'd come home."

Bellick asks after LJ as he and Linc prepare to override the main conduit in order to stop the flow of water.

New Tunnel of Love. The water stops and Michael guesses they have an hour to do ninety minutes worth of work. He stumbles a little and as Sucre worriedly asks if he's all right, has trouble with his hands. Cue the shooting pains! Michael collapses, screaming and holding his head. Sucre rushes to his side and we rush to commercials.

God, I will be so happy when this election is over.

Post commercials Michael's feeling a little better. Sucre mentions he overheard Doc and Linc talking so he knows something's up with Michael. Michael just asks Sucre to help with the pipe. Of course, Sucre says yes. Wentworth Miller plays scared really well.

We check back in with the old guy and the crazy bitch. He babbles a bit about when they first met. Apparently JLOK had attempted to join the police force, but was rejected due to her flunking a psych exam. Imagine that. I bet her "sociopathic tendencies" were music to SOG's ears. She was a mere twenty years old at the time. He breathes that she'll always be his girl. Then he leans in and plants one on her. Seriously! I know! So much for the rumor that JLOK's his daughter, though this wouldn't be the first time the show went there. Yeah, I said it. JLOK, it should be noted, kinda melts into the kiss. Say it with me, "Ewww!"

WOTUS. More torture.

T-Bag paces and pisses his drawers. He's such a multi-tasker. He manhandles Boobs, ordering her to call up some sales records.

New Tunnel of Love. Michael instructs Sucre and adds the warning that they've got thirty minutes.

Hmmm. CW even sounds like the hulk when he's in pain. Sidenote: Mahone is calm, cool and collected during the whole ordeal. He appears to be getting no enjoyment from the proceedings, it's merely something he has to get done.

Michael and Sucre are still at it (dirty!).

And back to WOTUS. Mahone calls up Callie, saying there's someone who needs to tell her something. He puts CW on, who says he's sorry. Mahone tells her, "It's done." She cries.

Final-freakin'-ly! Linc and Bellick return with the news that the water will be back on in ten minutes. Michael says they have to place another pipe through the hole in the huge-ass water pipe and they need someone to go inside said huge-ass water pipe and guide the other pipe in. Got that? Michael warns that it could flood at any time. Linc volunteers to go and Bellick(!) offers to assist.

Back to Yuckville. SOG asks after "Emmy." Oh God, don't tell me he's the papa. JLOK shoots down that line of questioning and says she's now a free agent. He's all, "Come now, don't be like that." He gives her an update on Laos. Things went swimmingly and now they're turning their attention to the US, which they hope to re-build in their image. Whatever, dude. Boring old counterfeiter. JLOK brings up Lisa and SOG swears, "I already told you, you're my girl." He grossly strokes her hair. Again, she just melts, closing her eyes and leaning into his hand. It's disturbing.

Mahone arrives at a pier, a chained CW in tow. CW begins speechifying, something about he and Mahone being the same. Mahone doesn't let him finish, as he pushes him off the dock mid-sentence. Ha! I nearly laughed out loud. Mahone just stands there, showing no emotion. He's simply being, his job done.

New Tunnel of Love. Seriously, I can't see shit and it's pissing me off 'cuz there are three hot, sweaty men on my screen. They should be lit up like Christmas trees. Oh, Bellick's there too. Oh no! The support brace broke.

Gate. T-Bag weasels his way outta deep doo-doo, passing off Whistler/Pfeiffer's false sales reports as AA's. The gimp tells White that if they go to the police with this, the IRS will be all over the place. But..., if White says he's discovered inaccuracies in AA's personal accounts, they'll think he's just lying low.

Push, boys! Work up that sweat! Ooh, la la! I can see 'em, too. Gah! Don't show Bellick all sweaty and grunty! I'm having nightmare flashbacks to Bellick stumbling around in his tighty whities last season. Uh-oh! The water's coming! Linc tells Bellick they gotta go, but Bellick channels some of that inner-hulk strength and turns himself into a support brace. Michael hollers for Linc to get out, but Bellick orders them to push in the other pipe. Cue the pushing. And grunting. Dammit! What's with the lighting on this show? I don't care that lighting up the tunnel wouldn't be realistic, it's not as if this show has ever been grounded in reality. The sweaty, sweaty men succeed in getting the pipe into place. One problem: Bellick's stranded. He turns to face the wall of water rushing toward him. He braces himself and then...he's no more. Linc's sprayed, but alive.

Yuck. SOG calls in the others, including Lisa, who shoots a death glare at JLOK. JLOK returns the look. SOG orders them to move Scylla even though the brothers are dead. JLOK's ears perk up. SOG says if she can get that close to Scylla, they better move it. He wants it out of LA by the end of tomorrow.

Now it's the Tunnel of Sorrow. Our boys are dejected as we, the viewers, ponder if Bellick's sacrifice will be for naught.

Great Payoff with nice surprises. hide show

After 1 death in the previous episode, this episode would only lead to another death, however, two deaths was the final count, again the writer's don´t know how to dismiss an character, so they kill it.

We began with a recap and a mysterious briefcase. The complication here is to make a hole, and make Wyatt talk to the General that Michael and his brother are death.

Let´s talk about the best part of this episode. Mahone torture was one of the Best I saw in TV, the torture was so good and Wyatt really deserved. Then Mahone kill him in an unexpected way, but that was nice, a moment that was a great payoff. I didn´t expected that Self and Sara was playing Wyatt all along, nice twist.

Michael mission ended with one death, killing Bellick wasn´t a thing that I liked, not because he was one of my favorites characters, the fact was his presence wasn´t necessary, so why not put him behind bars instead of making him join the group? Maybe only now they paid attention for the error they made and they rectified, so he is dead. His sacrifice doesn´t make any sense to me.

Speaking of sacrifice which doesn´t made sense, another unreal things was the all process with the Tube, really, not only that was impossible with the time frame, making marks without any tools was unreal.

As expected, Gretchen goes back to where she belong but I wasn´t expected her type of relation with the general. T-bag scenes continue to be pure filler, we all know that Andrew was filler and this was well explored to allow T-bag to have his share of participation.

The ending was satisfying, even with Bellick death.

wow just wow.. you get to see the best side of two of the main characters, it's got the thrills and the surprises you might expect hide show

mahone is such a badass!! he has the brains of scofield but the balls to back it up. How he tortured his son's killer (can't remember his name) is absolutely badass. Mahone is my favorite character by far. The way Bellick dies is also noteworthy, he had really grown on me since the first season and it's sad to see him go once you think back at all the things they went through together. They hated each other at fox river and in the end he gives up his life to save the plan. Brilliant episode, I hope the rest of them are just as good.

'Greatness Achieved'? I'd say so, yeah. hide show

Scriptwriting 101: If you want to kill a recurring character, ensure that sufficient empathy is engendered in the viewing audience before the act occurs, so that maximum emotional resonance is achieved. Ideally, this process takes place over the course of weeks, seasons even, rather than simply forty short minutes… but unfortunately, American television writers return time and time again to the formula of 'oh **** we want to get rid of this guy but no one really cares all that much about him… quick, throw in a few lines about his twisted family life and how difficult things have been for him, show how repentant he is… yeah, that'll do it.' The moment Brad Bellick started waxing poetic about his regrets in the first few scenes of 'Greatness Achieved', it was painfully aware that he was about to get knee deep in some serious shtick. Which he did. And died for his troubles. Poor soul. Aside from this unfortunate predictability, this episode is a masterpiece of dramatic intensity: the 'tunnelling' sequence harks back to the hallowed first season, T-Bag's situation becomes increasingly desperate and in what is unquestionably the absolute highlight, Mahone gets to lay waste to Wyatt in true, horrifying style. The writing is superb, maintaining our interest in the characters, as well as focusing our attention on the ever-spiralling plot, and, as usual, the acting is top notch. I've said it before and I'll say it again, William Fichtner can do no wrong. 'Greatness Achieved'? I'd say so, yeah.

    10 Perfect
    Major Developments hide show

That was memorable. After the death of Roland, another member of the team bites the dust, Brad Bellick. Now, he was here since the pilot, so that`s a major death. Of course, there wasn`t much to tell about him anymore but they managed to bring that special feeling for his death. Bellick sacrifices himself in a memorable scene...so suspenseful and so much emotion..it was all perfect. I always considered him as a fun character...will miss his funny lines. Great closure for a series original. Bellick was not the only major death as Wyatt died too..the Mahone way. Wyatt first got fooled by Self in a "home alone" style..well didn`t see it coming.:D

So it was several episodes in the making and Mahone finally got his hands on Wyatt, and it wasn`t disappointing. I was actually expecting Sara to protest but hell I`m glad she didn`t..hate her morality stuff.:P Wyatt is tortured big time...I still didn`t expect him to say sorry to Pam tho. Wyatt`s final scene was great...Mahone cutting him short, awesome. That was a great storyline for Mahone and now I just hope that they still use him well.

T-Bag was great as always, covering for boys while dealing with investigation on Andrew`s death..all fun. It`s really a revival of this great character this season..he only became important by the end in season 3.
Gretchen gets back to the general..probably to use her ties for her quest. Could still go either way tho.

Finally, Scofield, health issues..dunno where this is going, probably some pointless drama, I guess..no way they kill him.

So Bellick`s sacrifice was not in vain as the team now has a way to Scylla...it was all thrilling and the best episode of the season so far.

    Nerve Wracking! hide show

While Roland`s death didn`t strike me that much, Bellick`s did. How emotional was that? Bellick dies in a heroic way. Can`t believe he was here since day 1, quite a run. Rip :(
There was so much suspense in this one, good old prison break. T-Bag was awesome like always and his association with Gretchen continues to be a winner. Also, Michael`s condition continues to worse, wonder where this would leave us. Meanwhile Mahone gets his revenge and damn it was brutal. Wyatt dies, saying sorry to Pam. wow. Amazing episode as this season just gets better and better. The number of players is decreasing considerably tho, the end is near.
