Name that airport...

TodayairportHere's this week's "name that airport" photo. Take your best guess by submitting an answer via the comments section below. Well reveal the airport's identity at the end of the day on Friday. Until then, guess away!

Name that airport…

Todaynameairport

AND THE ANSWER IS (updated Friday, Jan. 11, 10:30 a.m. ET): Seyechelles International Airport, in the Indian Ocean island nation of the Seyechelles. Congratulations to reader simpv for being the first to correctly identify the airport. Our thanks to reader Jay Soules of Allen, Texas, for submitting the photo. Come back Monday when we'll use another reader photo for "name that airport." And stay tuned for future calls to submit photos (no e-mails please). Also, my apologies for the late update -- I've been fighting the flu this week, which has had me a bit behind schedule.

UPDATE (as of Wednesday, Jan. 9, 12:45 p.m. ET): I've moved up the "name that airport" photo to keep it near the top of the blog. So far, no one has managed to correctly guess the airport. I'll give one hint for now: The airport is not in the Americas. I'll include another hint -- a second photo -- following today's chat.

Pictured here is this week's name that airport photo, which was submitted by a reader who will be identified when we reveal the airport's identity on Thursday. Until then, use the comments link below to submit your best guess on this week's mystery photo. And stay tuned Thursday afternoon when we reveal its identity.

And that airport is …

Todayairport02Washington Dulles is the airport featured in this week's "name that airport" entry. (The photo is posted again here.). As some of you suggested, I did indeed take that photo when the Airbus A380 may its debut at Dulles earlier this year. Congratulations to all who guessed correctly, and be sure to check out next week's airport photo.

Name that airport … and Today in the Sky schedule update

Todayairport02_2Here's the first name that airport photo for 2008. As always, take your best guess by submitting a comment via the comments link below. I’ll post the answer on Friday.

Also, I'm on vacation today, but I do have a few briefs ready for today's Today in the Sky. The blog will return to its regular format Thursday morning. Until then, take your best at today's airport photo.

Name that airport...

TodaynameDoes the photo to the left look familiar? It's our "name that airport" photo for this week, our second attempt at using reader-submitted photos. Unlike last time, however, we won't identify the reader who sent us the photo until we reveal the airport's identity at the end of tomorrow's chat. Submit your guesses below and come back tomorrow for the answer. And, in case you missed it, last week's airport was the McAllen-Miller International Airport in Texas.

Name that airport ...

Readerphotomfexlarge This week's "Name that airport" challenge comes from a reader. During last month's call for readers to send in their airport photos, Reader ahon007 sent us this picture. What airport do you think this photo was taken from? Submit your guesses via the comments section below and we'll fill you in on the answer at the end of the day on Friday. Enjoy!

And that airport was … Buenos Aires

Todayba2In case you missed the subtle reference in Wednesday's chat, this week's mystery airport photo was of Ezeiza Airport in Buenos Aires. Congratulations to all the readers who correctly identified the airport. And speaking of Argentina, I thought our readers might be interested in checking out these airline ads that loomed large over Buenos Aires' broad Avenida 9 de Julio. The ad to the left is for American and announces its new service to Chicago. The one in the right is for Brazilian carrier Gol. In any case, come back next week for the latest "name that airport photo."

Name that airport ...

Todayname_2It's time to resume the "name that airport challenge." First, however, kudos to all who correctly guessed the previous installment, which was Long Island's MacArthur Airport. I thought the photo clue was a tough one, but many of you were able to correctly guess the airport. Starting next week, we'll be using some of the photos that our readers have submitted during the past week. But for now, let's see how long it takes for you to guess this week's photo (pictured here). Submit your guesses in the comments section below and stay tuned for the answer.

And the name of that airport is ...

Long Island MacArthur Airport in Islip, N.Y.

Once again, there were several correct guesses, the first of which came from reader On the Road, an impressive performance given how little this photo revealed. Many thanks to all who participated, and stay tuned next week for another installment of Name that airport, possibly using one of your photos.

Name that airport

Todayairport01Since readers seem to have easily identified our past few airport photos, I've decided to try to make things a little more challenging. This week's "mystery" airport photo -– pictured here -– offers fewer context clues than in previous weeks. Still, I'm guessing that at least a few readers will be able to identify it. If it proves too challenging, we'll adjust accordingly next week. For now, though, take a stab by submitting your guess in the comments section below. The answer will be posted in Today in the Sky on Friday morning.

Name that airport...

Todayairport03It's time for this week's "name that airport" challenge. Last week's airport, for those who missed the answer, was Berlin's Tegel Airport. There are fewer terminal clues in this week's photo, but our readers have been pretty resourceful in figuring out the identities of the previous airports. So check out this week's mystery airport and leave your guesses in the comments section below. And, like last week, I'll reveal the airport's identity at the end of Wednesday's chat. We'll also put the answer in Today in the Sky on Thursday morning for those who may have missed the chat. Enjoy!
