The Mayor of Dresden

The Mayor (Oberbürgermeister) is Chairman of the City Council and Head of the City Administration.
He acts as chairman of the legislative bodies, i.e. the City Council and its legislative committees. He at the same time manages the City Administration and is responsible for internal organisation and the day-to-day administrative business. The Mayor implements the resolutions of the City Council and its committees.

On 24th June 2001, the people of Dresden elected Ingolf Rossberg (FDP) as their Mayor. He stood for office as candidate of the citizens' initiative "A Mayor for Dresden" and received 47.1 per cent of the vote.
He took up his duties on 1st August 2001. The mayor is elected for a term of seven years.

Ingolf Rossberg was born in Dresden on 22nd March 1961. He is married and has three children.
