CodeWavers is developing a software called CrossOver Mac which will allow Intel Mac OS X users to run Windows applications.
There is some great news for those who cannot decide between Mac and Windows and those who like Mac, but need some of the numerous Windows applications.
If until now, running Windows programs on a Mac was a slow and painful process, recently, with the help of CodeWeavers (the ones behind the open-source Wine project), a new solution is foreseen. It’s called CrossOver Mac and it will allow users to run Windows programs on Mac without the need of a Windows license.
The new software will be released somewhere between late July and early August 2006 and will provide compatibility with all applications that the current version supports, plus some new additions in the Microsoft 2003 version products and some limited game support (including the Windows-only game “Half-Life 2″).
Although it’s based on the open-source Wine, CrossOver Mac will cost $59.95 for a single copy, but CEO Jeremy White thinks that Mac users will prove to be less tightfisted than Linux users which have been reluctant to pay for the CrossOver product, when the technology is also available free in the open-source world.
