“Those truths which are collected in this book represent a truth for us which helps us to be good people. This book, I guess, without exaggeration might be called a treasure, because here are not represented the thoughts of some philosopher or scholar but the experience of the Church. Thus, if we with a whole heart accept all the truths which are written in this book and tell ourselves that here is a treasure which is worth living by, then, I think, corruption and other miseries of our life will disappear forever. I would like to call the presentation of this manual in the Ukrainian language an important day in the history of our society, especially in this transitional period, when we are building up our own state…” So said His Beatitude Lubomyr, Major Archbishop of Kyiv and Halych, during the presentation of the Ukrainian translation of the Compendium of the Social Doctrine of the Church – a concentrated manual in which is summed up the more than one hundred years of work of the Catholic Church in the social sphere...

Benedict XVI greets His Beatitude Lubomyr on the jubilee of priesthood
On February 2, at 17:00 (Rome time) in the Pro-Cathedral Church of Saint Sophia in Rome on the occasion of the 75th birthday and 50th anniversary of the priesthood of His Beatitude Lubomyr, the Head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy was celebrated. It was headed by the Major Archbishop of Kyiv and Halych in concelebration with bishops from Ukraine who came to the Eternal City on an «Ad limina Apostolorum» visit. «Ad limina Apostolorum» visit of Greek-Catholic bishops from Ukraine finishes
On Saturday February 2, with a ceremonial Hierarchical Divine Liturgy which will be celebrated in the Pro-Cathedral Church of Saint Sophia in Rome at 17:00 (Roman time), the «Ad limina Apostolorum» visit of the Greek-Catholic bishops from Ukraine will be actually finished. At this Liturgy at the same time the Head and Father of the UGCC, His Beatitude Lubomyr, will be honored. In 2008 he is celebrating his 75th birthday (he was born on February 26, 1933) and the 50th anniversary of his priesthood (he was ordained in March 1958). >>>
The Catholic Church suggests an effective resolution of social problems
On February 5 at 15:00 at the Assembly Hall of the National University Kyiv Mohyla Academy (Kyiv, Skovorody St., 2) will be conducted a presentation of the Ukrainian translation of the Compendium of Social Doctrine of the Catholic Church – a concentrated reference book in which is summed up the one-hundred-year work of the Catholic Church in the social sphere. In the Basilica of Saint John in Rome a Liturgy was served in the Ukrainian language
Yesterday, on January 29 in the Pontifical Basilica of Saint John Lateran, His Beatitude Lubomyr, the Head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, led a Hierarchical Divine Liturgy. Around the central altar of the basilica there were also 14 bishops who head eparchies and exarchates of the Greek-Catholic Church in Ukraine and auxiliary bishops, and also Fr. Dmytro Hryhorak, Apostolic Administrator of the eparchy of Buchach, and 5 priests who perform pastoral ministry in and near Rome. Regardless of the fact that it was a usual work day, at this festive service Ukrainians who work there also came, about 50 people, informed the Ukrainian section of Radio Vatican. >>>
«Ad limina Apostolorum» visit continues
The «Ad limina Apostolorum» visit of the Greek-Catholic Bishops from Ukraine continues. On January 29, the second day of the visit, at 9:30 Rome time, all the bishops, headed by His Beatitude Lubomyr, Major Archbishop of Kyiv and Halych, made a visit to the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples and at 11:00 a visit to the Congregation for the Oriental Churches started. This evening at 17:30 local time, the bishops will serve a Divine Liturgy in the Papal Basilica of Saint John Lateran, the Ukrainian Department of Radio Vatican informed us. >>>
Today Greek-Catholic Bishops from Ukraine meet with the Pope of Rome
On January 28, 2008, the “Ad limina Apostolorum” visit of the Greek-Catholic bishops from Ukraine to the Vatican started. “Ad limina Apostolorum” is an old practice which once concerned bishops who did their pastoral service around Rome. In the 13th century it spread to the whole world. Every five years, or when the possibility allows, Catholic bishops from all over the world arrive in Rome in their turn for the visit “Ad limina Apostolorum,” which in Latin means “To the tombs of the Holy Apostles.” >>>
A meeting of the Permanent Bishops’ Synod of the UGCC was held in Rome
On January 25-26, 2008, in Rome a meeting of the Permanent Synod of Bishops of the UGCC was held. “Usually we conduct one meeting of the Permanent Synod – during the year four meetings took place, one of those right after the finish of the Patriarchal Synod – outside Ukraine. Pastoral visit of Bishop Hlib to Ireland
From January 17 to 22, 2008, the Most Rev. Bishop Hlib (Lonchyna), Apostolic Visitator for Ukrainian Greek-Catholics in Italy, Spain, and Ireland, was on a pastoral visit to Ireland. In this country the Greek-Catholic community of Blessed Mykolay Charnetskyj operates in the city of Dublin, where Archimandrite Serge (Kelleher) does pastoral work.
