Highway 11 is the busiest North-South route in Saskatchewan. It connects the three laregest cites of the province, Regina, and Saskatoon, and Prince Albert. The section of roadway between Regina and Lumsden was the first four lane, divided highway in the province. (1960). It is now all divided beween Regina and Saskatoon except for a 3km stretch through the town of Chamberlain. On June 20, 2001, highway 11 was named "Louis Riel Trail" in recognition of the famous meti leader, Louis Riel.
