Triple H def. Edge, Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Randy Orton & Batista in the Elimination Chamber to become World Heavyweight Champion

The World Heavyweight Championship was vacant heading into New Year’s Revolution. After a controversial Triple Threat Match in which both Edge and Chris Benoit had seemed to have pinned each other, RAW General Manager Eric Bischoff declared that the new champion would be crowned at New Year’s Revolution in the Elimination Chamber.

Joining Benoit, Edge and Triple H inside the demonic structure was Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Randy Orton and Batista. To make matters even more interesting, Shawn Michaels was named the special guest referee. Benoit and Jericho started the match, and someone else entered every five minutes until everyone was released into the match. Benoit and Jericho went at it tooth and nail until Triple H entered the match next. The three took turns on the offensive, using the Chamber as a weapon every chance they had. Edge entered next and was followed by Randy Orton.

After being kicked out of Evolution just a couple of months earlier, Orton’s primary target was Triple H. Orton got himself locked in the Crippler Crossface, though, and Triple H taunted him. Benoit saw this and broke the hold and got The Game in the Sharpshooter instead. Randy hit Benoit with the RKO and everyone was down. Edge went for the spear on Orton, but Orton moved out of the way, causing Edge to take out HBK. Edge went for the cover, but HBK was out in the corner. Edge went over and slapped him to revive him, but Michaels responded with Sweet Chin Music. Jericho took advantage and hit the Lionsault for the pin and Edge was eliminated.

Jericho and Benoit then teamed up on Triple H. The duo managed to get The Game in the Walls of Jericho and Crippler Crossface simultaneously. Triple H was writhing in pain, but he was saved when Batista finally entered the Chamber. Moments later Batista hit Benoit with a vicious spinebuster and then hit Jericho with the same maneuver onto Benoit. Benoit was ripe for the pickings after that and was eliminated. Batista followed it up with a Batista Bomb on Jericho for another pin and elimination. Evolution teammates Triple H and Batista were left with former Evolution member Orton.

Triple H and Batista brutalized their former teammate, but Orton refused to go down. Batista went for the Batista Bomb, but Orton somehow hit the RKO from out of nowhere. Orton covered Batista, and it appeared as though Triple H could have made the save, but he decided not to and The Animal was gone.

Orton was able to keep his momentum going and hit the RKO on Triple H as well, but Ric Flair and Batista distracted HBK before he could make the count. Amidst the chaos, Batista snuck back in and nailed Orton with a clothesline, knocking him out. With Orton knocked out, Triple H hit the Pedigree and the pin was academic, giving Triple H his 10th World Championship.
