SHAH ALAM, Fri:

Umno information chief Tan Sri Muhammad Muhd Taib said today he knew nothing about the speculation that he was being selected to contest the Shah Alam parliamentary seat in the March 8 general election.

He said any decision on candidacy for the general election on March 8, including his own positon, could only be made by Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi.

“I have still not heard anything about the BN candidates list for the Selangor parliamentary and state constituencies.

“The matter will be decided by the top ladership and the decision will be announced later,” he said when contacted here today.

He said this when asked to comment on the speculation that he was being nominated to contest the Shah Alam parliamentary seat in the election in place of the incumbent, Datuk Seri Abdul Aziz Shamsuddin.
The Shah Alam parliamentay constituency has 73,334 registered voters comprising 38,442 voters in the state constituency of Kota Anggerik and 36,892 voters in the Batu Tiga state constituency.

In the 2004 general election, Abdul Aziz beat the PAS candidate Khalid Abdul Samad with a 13,410-vote majority.
