KUALA TERENGGANU: A political pamphlet comparing the Islamic credentials of the Terengganu and Kelantan governments has drawn the ire of Barisan Nasional politicians here.
Pas leaders have declined to comment, saying they have not seen it. It is not known who is circulating the flyer.
The upper half of the A4-sized flyer features a picture of the Crystal mosque in a Barisan Nasional blue frame, with the words Terengganu -- Islam Membina Tamadun (Islam creates civilisation).
The lower half has pictures of the two Buddhist statues in Tumpat and Bachok, Kelantan, in a Pas green frame with the words Kelantan -- Membangun Bersama Islam (Growing with Islam).
Printed under the pictures are the words Terbesar Di Asia Tenggara (The Biggest in Southeast Asia). And between the two pictures is the slogan Beza Antara Dua (The Difference Between the Two).
State Islam Hadhari and Welfare committee member Datuk Rosol Wahid said Umno had nothing to do with the flyer, and warned that sensitive issues must not be played up.
"Such materials will only create disharmony, apart from having a negative impact on our multi-racial and multi-religious country. People need to be sensitive.
"The prime minister has advised us not to play the religious or race card. I hope such practices are stopped," he said.
State Health, Unity, Consumer Affairs and Environment committee chairman Toh Chin Yaw said: "It is not right to make such comparisons, and it could hurt the feelings of non-Muslims here.
"The state government has been very fair and has encouraged religious and cultural activities here."
