CANTON Friday's verdicts mean Bobby L. Cutts Jr. will face either death or one of several life prison terms.

At a minimum, it will be at least 25 years before he is eligible for release.

The jury is due to return Feb. 25 to decide a recommendation on one of four penalty options.

They are:

1) Death

2) Life in prison with no chance of parole

3) Life in prison with a chance of parole after 30 years

4) Life in prison with a chance of parole in 25 years

Stark County Common Pleas Judge Charles E. Brown Jr. will take the jury's recommendation and sentence Cutts following the second phase of the trial.

If the jury chooses death, Brown must do an independent analysis to determine if the death penalty is legally appropriate. He could reject a death recommendation, though that's rare.

If the jury chooses one of the life options, the judge is bound by that recommendation.

There are other factors that can affect the prison term.

Brown also has the authority to merge the sentences (run them concurrently) for some of the charges or add them up (run them consecutively) to increase the number of years Cutts would be behind bars before he is eligible for release.

For example, Brown could tack on terms of 15 to life for the murder charge related to Jessie Davis, three to 10 years for the aggravated burglary at Davis' home and up to two years for the two counts of gross abuse of a corpse tied to the bodies of Davis and her unborn child.

Added together, it could add another 27 years to the minimum sentence, meaning Cutts would not be eligible for parole for 52 years.

This guy should never be free again!

He should have dialed 911. Maybe, then he would not be looking this sentence in the face. He took the wrong fork in the road and now he will pay. TOO BAD! If any of you have any sympathy for him, then remember what her body became.

If not the Death Sentence then all charges should be ran consecutively. He should never be allowed to be free. For one he was a Police Officer (rogue one at that) that used his training & knowledge to commit double murder & try to get away w/it. From a month prior to killing Jessie & Chloe he stated exactly what he was going to do to Jessie then he carried it out & lied for 8 months. Bobby has tried to call all the shots since day one & it needs to end. This is about Justice for Jessie & Chloe. He knowingly lied & put Patty & her family thru hell w/the trial. I hope Blake never has to deal w/his father out walking the streets after what he has done to his mother & sister he never got to meet.

I was truly afraid this guy would end up going free on some technicality, especially when the defense started questioning whether or not the jury understood the instructions by the judge. I'm relieved he was found guilty, but don't forget about all the appeals he is entitled to and will probably use. This is not over by a longshot. We will be hearing about this case for a long, long time. Look at Scott Peterson! The media has begun comparing him to Scott Peterson.

Jennifer Rodriques - 8:40 AM on February 16, 2008
Why does he deserve to live - even if it would possibly be until he is in his 70's if the judge adds on extra years? He did not consider the value of life with J Davis or her baby.

Tom Irwin - 8:49 AM on February 16, 2008
No matter what the sentence, anytime spend in a prison by an excop, is a death sentence. The inmates will see that justice is done.

He'll have alot of girlfriends now.
