Australia Gets Belated PSP Price Cut, Camera Details
Better late than never. SCE Australia have just announced that the PSP is getting a price cut, and a pretty hefty one at that, with the rrp being slashed from AUD$349.95 to AUD$279.95. Yes, you could easily find them retailing at under AUD$300 anyways, even at rrp sticklers like EB, but it's the thought that counts.
Also announced was the local details for the PSP's Go! Cam, which! will! cost! AUD$79.95! Sorry. That awfully improper use of exclamation points is catchy. For those interested in such things, the full press release is after the jump.

My guess is that the Australian mark up on these from the Sony selling price to the suggested retail price was much higher than in the U.S.

Hopefully with the RRP cut we'll see store prices drop to around the $250 mark.
If that winds up being the case, I'll probably pick one up.

so North america is like.. the only place on earth not to get the psp camera, huh?
the only thing that will make that stinging pain feel better will be if when they do release it here....
its a way better version... like 5 megapixels or something.
..and maybe the ability to cure cancer thrown in for kicks.
...i think i should stick to being sincere, rather than attempting to make jokes.

I don't think that a camera is capable of folding@home.
Maybe the exchange rate site I was using was wrong, but that still looks like a $230 USD PSP. If so, the Australians are still getting ripped off.

@joelface:
I remember when saying a game console could cure cancer was a joke. Ahhh the times we live in.

I got this press this morning and was laughing at both the name and the release date. Wasn't this supposed to come out in Europe about 10 days ago? Was it actually released? Did anyone notice?
Sorry about the use of quotations.
I was surprised to see the camera rocks the widescreen but was a little dissapointed by the camera quality. I believe I saw on one of the photos "1.3 megapixels". That's not a hell of alot. I think I'd just rather buy a camera, especially considering how fragile the PSP is anyways. I keep it firmly stowed in its Logitech case and that damned camera doesn't look like it'll fit into it.
More functionality yay, bu seriously, I believe that a standalone camera is worth more of my time - just like I'd rather own a VOIP capable mobile as opposed to a VOIP capable PSP.

LOL. folding@home. i didnt even think of that! ahaha.

That's Australia for ya!
Damn GST.

@ceilingFANBOY: A 2007 VW Jetta, the worst one, with manual transmission, costs AUD 33k, or USD27k, in Australia. Everything just costs more over there.
Flag
Oh, so it is sort of like England. Things cost way more than they should, even when you take into account the exchange rate. It's not just Sony that does this to the Aussies.
Flag
The only way sony can make money is to rip the rest of the world off and make sure japan and united states are satisfied.

@syndicate:
congratulations on not knowing what the hell your talking about.

What's Australia and why do their monies cost more than america dollars?
Flag
I just don't understand what kind of use its going to get. Games? Taking pictures at the beach? Maybe I'll get one and start taking wedding pictures for a price.
Flag
Australian dollars and American dollars are different currencies. Our money (AUD) is like monopoly money, it comes in a variety of bright colours.

um,my guess is your an american?check the map of the world...were only the largest island in the world and yes our dollar is not the same value as yours...
Flag
Yeah we're also the worlds smallest continent, one of the worlds richest countries & the 6th largest country in terms of land mass.
But seriously that guy can't be THIS stupid.
Flag
I don't care about the stupid camera! I want the GPS! Evidently the Australians like the Americans can find their way around without technological assistance. Damn Sony, that is not the Geek way!
