In 2004 the Tricycle Foundation created and began to distribute a meditation kit, free of charge, to prisoners throughout the United States. The response was awe-inspiring and since then we’ve sent out nearly 1,500 kits. But with more than two million inmates incarcerated in the US, this is just a humble beginning.

The driving force behind our work is a belief that our criminal justice system strips individuals of their humanity and spirit. We believe that human beings have the capacity to change and find peace even while incarcerated, and the meditation kits are designed to facilitate this.

Most recently, the Meditation Kit Project was moved to the web. Now, prisoners can request kits through their chaplian or librarian, who will be able to download all the materials directly from our site. Where prisoners are unabe to do so, we will send them a kit directly. Our hope is that this will help facilitate a more swift and direct dissemination of the materials into the prison systems.
