Exclusive: NBC's Leaving Las Vegas

Molly Sims and Josh Duhamel in Las Vegas by Mitch Haddad/NBC Photo
Looks like Las Vegas is cashing in its chips after five years on the air.

Sources confirm to me exclusively that NBC has opted not to renew the show for a sixth season. Consequently, last Friday's episode? Yep, that was the series finale. Hope it was satisfying!

NBC had hoped this season's cast shake-up — Thomas Magnum replacing Sonny Corleone — might re-energize the show, but instead, it led to a double-digit ratings decline. Of course, the Friday time slot didn't help.

Sad to see the Montecito close its doors? Eulogies are currently being accepted in the white box below.

Oddly enough, if they'd canceled it before this past season I'd have shrugged and went on my way. This season, imho was a return to what made me love the show in it's early seasons. While it's taken until the last couple of eps for the Camille Guaty's Piper to become more than a barely tolerable annoyance, Tom Selleck's AJ Cooper was a great addition that made losing James Caan/Big Ed Deline tolerable. Here's hoping we'll at least keep seeing the Montecito cameos in other NBC shows.

Hey Mike- any chance NBC will give Vegas a one-off TV movie to wrap up the cliffhanger season/series finale? Las Vegas may not have been a huge ratings grabber or critical darling, but I still throughly enjoyed it and after surviving NBC's schedule for 5 seasons when MANY other more critically or network-ly acclaimed shows have not- think Boomtown and Coupling respectively- you'd think they'd at least give it a proper sendoff.

Las Vegas was declining in the ratings but considering it was Friday nights it pulled its weight. NBC is the last network that should be canceling decent shows.

I am not saying that Las Vegas was emmy worthy or anything but we at my house thoroughly enjoyed as popcorn TV watching. I am noticing a pattern with NBC: Cancel a worthy show (Think Boomtown, Kingpin) or take a show that is at least ok, move it and then cancel it. Is it any wonder the network is in last by a mile? Hopefully they will at least do a one off movie to wrap up the show properly.

It certainly does stink that we were left with a cliffhanger of an ending. A final wrap up of the show would be nice. Although we can assume that Delinda and the baby would be fine it would be fun to see Danny adjusting to being a father!

I actually lost interest after last year with Mary gone. I think I am in the minority who wanted Danny and Mary together. Although I watched this year, it was only out of habit and lack of anything better to watch in that time slot.

I did like AJ and Piper, but I still didn't care that much about the show anymore.

Foolish move NBC.
Good luck finding some other show for Friday nights. Just know, I won't be watching. I'll just have to ration my Tivo'd shows from Tuesday and Wednesday to carry me through.

What a shame, I can only assume it's being cancelled to make room for yet another reality show. I've always enjoyed Las Vegas as a guilty pleasure, it was perfect entertainment as the show never took itself too seriously. It drives me crazy how the networks, specifically NBC, move their shows around and then cancel them claiming low ratings. After 5 seasons, I think the show and the fans deserve a little more than the cliff-hanger ending of last week as well!

I hate to say it, but I am glad. They should never had gotten rid of Ed or Mary. The baby storyline was not amusing nor entertaining, and the show was just a shadow of it's once fun and enjoyable self. I think this was a good decision on NBC's part.

It's too bad but 5 years is a good run for a show.
