MUAR: The Barisan Nasional (BN) leadership has agreed on the "Cure Kelantan Year" slogan in its campaign to wrest the state from Pas in the March 8 general election.

Umno vice-president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said he was confident that the strategy would help BN form the state government.

"This is the best opportunity for BN to capture Kelantan from Pas. We lost by a narrow margin in the 2004 general election because the voters were confused with calls to vote Pas candidates for state seats and the BN for parliamentary seats," he said.

Speaking to reporters after chairing the Pagoh Umno committee meeting in Seri Pekembar yesterday, Muhyiddin, who is Agriculture and Agro-based Industry Minister, said the federal government injected more funds into Kelantan compared with the Pas-led state government.


Among the federal projects were a university and the National Food Terminal aimed at uplifting the economic status of the Kelantan people, he said. -- Bernama
