The Supermarine Spitfire was much more than just a highly successful fighter aircraft. It was, and indeed to many people still is, the symbol of victory against overwhelming odds and is probably the only fighter to achieve a truly legendary status.
Certainly no other fighter is more deserving of a place in aviation history.

In forty major variants it was built in greater numbers than any other British aircraft of the time, it flew operationally on every front between 1939 and 1945 and it was engaged in every major action fought by the Royal Air Force.
There have been numerous books and other publications dedicated to the Supermarine Spitfire and this site can never be fully comprehensive.
If, however you consider that a piece of important information has been missed, or you can suggest any other improvements please let me know.
This site has been built with the assistance of numerous people to whom I am extremely grateful - my intention is to make this the definitive site for information on the Supermarine Spitfire and if you can help in any small way please get in touch.
I am always open to suggestions as to how the site can be improved and indeed over the past twelve months it has expanded rapidly - if you have any stories, pictures or anything else that I can include please contact me - by the same token if you have a site that is relevant for inclusion on the Link page please let me know. The link page will be amended substantially over the next few months to make it more "user friendly" and if you have a suggestion please send an email.
Many thanks.

Questions and comments are welcome although I have to admit that
I don't have the time to reply personally to all emails
.
Please make sure that you check the contents of the site first for the answer
to your question - if the answer is already on the site you will not receive
any response but if not, and I do have the time, I will attempt to find an answer...
If you are a modeller please also do not send me emails regarding colour schemes or plans.
The prototype, K5054 was officially "Duck Blue" and I have no details of paint codes.
You can also purchase plans from a number of sites on the internet -
this site offers free information and I do not promote or link to any commercial sites.

Please do not send an email if you are looking for information on flying a Spitfire.....
under UK CAA restrictions we are advised that such flights are not possible.
If you would like to find out what it is like to learn to fly then you can purchase my unique book,
"Learning to Fly in 21 Days" which is my account of gaining a Private Pilot Licence in 1997.
I have also written a number of other business management books,
some of which have been recommended by The Sunday Times,
and all of these can be purchased through Amazon -
search for Phil Stone using the box below.
