| The Casts, mother and daughter, have written
a delightful book that's aimed at teens but will be enjoyed by readers of all ages. The trials of growing up are presented in the new and original context of a vampire society, and they're woven into a thoroughly entertaining story. Zoey is a dynamic and spunky heroine who has an amusing and realistic voice. She's surrounded by secondary characters who are just as engaging. The dialogue is sharp and the references to real people and pop culture add to the story. This promises
to be a highly addictive series.
Summary: Its been a rough week for
16-year-old Zoey Redbird, and unfortunately it's not going to get any better. She just wants to fit in, and to her shock, fitting in means getting marked for a spot at the House of Night, a school for fledgling vampyres. She leaves behind an ex-boyfriend, a failing grade in geometry and the step-loser who married her mother.
And her new life turns out to not
be so bad after all. She finds some loyal friends and catches the eye of
the cutest boy at school. Now if she can only survive the change, maybe she'll finally fit i. (ST. MARTIN'S GRIFFIN, May, 304 pp., $8.95)
