For the first time in the State, Pas will be fielding a woman candidate to contest the Jempol parliamentary seat. Pas Jempol committee member, Siti Mariam Naam, 65, a mother of three, is also a first time contender after joining the party in 1980.
"I was asked to contest for the seat and I agreed. I will do my best and leave the rest to god, she said. Siti is married to former armed forces personnel, Hamzah Sulaiman, 69, and is from Kampung Keru in Ulu Jempol.
Pas will be fielding more than 60 per cent first timers to contest three parliamentary seats - Jempol, Jelebu and Tampin, and 13 State seat in the coming general election.
State Pas chief Zulkefly Mohamed Omar said all candidates were from within the State and were selected based on their performance and credibility.
Apart from Siti, the other candidates for the parliamentary seats are Norman Impin, 37, who contested and lost the Sungai Lui State seat in the 2004 general election and Razakek Abd Rahim, 46. Norman will contest the Jelebu parliament seat, while Razakek will go for the Tampin seat.
"We have about 30,000 members in the State and will do our best to campaign for votes,” said Zulkefly. “Our strategy is simple - to tell the people the truth and the necessity to have a strong Opposition as an effective check and balance,"
