2007 was an embarrassment of riches for gaming in general. While we, the PC gamers, didn't get all of the biggest titles, the development community labored to prove this power platform still has plenty of kick. As expected, our favorite platform saw a huge number of superior strategy titles released this year like Supreme Commander, Company of Heroes: Opposing Fronts and World in Conflict. But unlike last year there also was a wealth of high-quality first-person shooters. BioShock, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Crysis, Half-Life 2: Episode Two, Team Fortress 2, STALKER, Quake Wars, and Unreal Tournament III helped make this a hallmark year for the genre in terms of breadth and depth. Thankfully, we also saw the return of the PC RPG, tons of excellent expansions, great racing games, and both adventure and strict puzzle titles. The selection of terrific games this year made the awards difficult to choose, but it's our job, so after more than a little deliberation between your three stalwart PC editors (Dan, Charles, and Steve), we came up with this list of the year's very best efforts.
