SL Benfica striker Pedro Mantorras has signed a contract extension running until 2011, club president Luís Filipe Vieira has revealed.

Return to action
The 23-year-old Angolan international joined Benfica from FC Alverca in 2001, when he was African young player of the year. He returned to action in the 2004/05 campaign after two injury-wrecked seasons, scoring five goals in 15 appearances to help Benfica to the Portuguese title. His previous deal was due to expire in 2006.

Contract confirmed
Vieira, speaking at the official unveiling of new signings Anderson, Beto and Andrei Kariaka, said: "I want to announce to all our fans that Mantorras has renewed his contract with Benfica until 2011." Benfica, under new coach Ronald Koeman, will begin their 2005/06 UEFA Champions League campaign in the group stage.
