Mission Statement

The Catholic Sun, as the official newspaper for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Phoenix, shares in the mission of proclaiming the Good News of Jesus Christ by providing news, information, education and a forum for discussion.

The Catholic Sun provides objective and accurate current information about the Church, both worldwide and local, and events that reflect the life and activities of the People of God.

Since this is a living Church, made up of imperfect beings with all the blessings of human potential and frailty, at times it is faced with difficult and controversial events. The Catholic Sun will not avoid or sensationalize such events but will report them objectively, fairly and completely.

The Catholic Sun educates its readers and enriches their lives by challenging them to a deeper understanding of official Church teaching and a greater commitment to the practical application of that teaching.

Understanding that there is a diversity of views on issues within the Church, The Catholic Sun provides a forum for such views, not necessarily endorsing them, but providing a place for their healthy discussion.

The Catholic Sun, dedicated to its readers and to the Catholic Church, has a special responsibility to foster a spirit of unity and pride within the diocese and the universal Church.
