5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Live Aerosmith, August 2, 2003
By David Shadd "david_shadd" (Georgetown, Ky United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Live Bootleg (Audio CD)
Bootleg is a collection of live songs from their 77-78 tour (with the exception of Mother Popcorn from a 73 radio broadcast). For my money, Aerosmith is one of the greatest live bands ever, and this is a collection of some of their greatest songs, from the era before they were ever on MTV or even radio.

Some of the highlights:
Back in the saddle- Just a cool song. Sounds great live..what Tyler calls a "lusty cowboy song"
Sweet Emotion and Dream On-Two classics that are made to be played live
Last Child- Another great song...a little faster than studio versions, but full of energy
Walk this Way- More funky than on the album...real cool
Chip Away- Best track on the album...awesome crowd reaction
Train Kept a rollin'- I'll quote the liner notes on this one: "Loud and fast-speaks for itself"

4.0 out of 5 stars better than you think, April 28, 2000
By Tony (Linwood, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live Bootleg (Audio CD)
Containing tracks recorded live through the years up to 78,Live Bootleg introduced us to "Chip Away The Stone" and great live renditions of all our favorites.I've always read real negative reviews of this album, but it probably works as a document of their live shows which were supposedly very bad at the time of it's release.Maybe it was the boot-beater ?

4.0 out of 5 stars Competent Live Album, December 31, 2003
By A.J. Taylor (Sparta, NJ United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Live Bootleg (Audio CD)
By the time this 1978 live album was recorded, Aerosmith were already falling into a steep decline, and the album plays testament to that. Several times on the album the band sounds completely fried, and Steven Tyler messes up the lyrics quite regularly. The band sounds out of rythem sometimes, and "Back in the Saddle" sounds REALLY off (although the heavy bass sound of the studio version is quite difficult to duplicate live).
That said, this is stil pretty good. The band on the whole perform decent renditions of all the Aerosmith classics, as well as a few rarities. The set list is pretty solid, with no huge holes in the canon of Aerosmith classics (though "Train Kept a Rollin" is sadly abbreviated).
Overall, this is a solid purchase for a fan of '70s Aerosmith. While it may not be great by any stretch of the imagination, it is competent enough.
