After delay, Amos 3 satellite to launch into orbit on Monday
By Yuval Azoulay, Haaretz Correspondent, and Haaretz Service
Tags: Spacecom, Amos 3, Israel

Following a last-minute delay due to a technical glitch, Israel's communications satellite Amos 3 will be launched into space from its current base in Kazakhstan on Monday morning at 8:00 A.M. local time.

Spacecom, the company that is operating the satellite, said the original launch was pushed back after engineers discovered a flaw in the mechanism responsible for the disengagement between the satellite support arm and the launcher.

The company emphasized that the malfunction is in the launcher rather than the satellite itself.

The postponement proved a disappointment for the Israeli aerospace industry, which had anticipated launching the satellite before a wide audience on live television to coincide with the country's 60th anniversary celebrations. The original launch was to be feted with an official ceremony from the President's Residence.
