IRVING, Texas -- Adam Scott returned to Australia after the Masters. It was a short visit.

"I felt like I was still playing good and I shouldn't waste that at home," Scott said.

So instead of staying home for a second week, Scott was a deadline entrant into the EDS Byron Nelson Championship, where Friday he shot a second-round 67 to take the lead at 5-under 135.

That was good for a one-stroke lead over fellow Aussies Mark Hensby (67) and Mathew Goggin (69), and Scott McCarron (66), who missed all of last season recovering from right elbow surgery.

Scott began his round with four straight birdies. Though he managed only one more to go with two bogeys, that was enough to give the only one of the world's top 10 players at the Nelson sole possession of the lead.

Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- Tom Watson and Andy North teamed to birdie the first seven holes en route to a better-ball 13-under 59 and a three-stroke lead after the first round of the Champions Tour's Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf.

Watson, who won the Outback Steakhouse Pro-Am last week in Florida, shot a 62 with his own ball and picked up twice when makable birdie putts weren't needed. He made the team's final birdie with an 8-foot putt on the par-3 17th.

The teams of R.W. Eaks and Bob Gilder, Keith Fergus and Wayne Levi, Morris Hatalsky and Don Pooley, and John Cook and Joey Sindelar were 10 under.

The event was played at St. Augustine's World Golf Village for four years before moving to Georgia.

Stanford International Pro-Am

AVENTURA -- Annika Sorenstam shot a 4-under 67 on the Soffer course to move within a stroke of leader Young Kim after the second round of the inaugural Stanford International Pro-Am at Turnberry Isle.

Kim also shot a 67, matching her first-round score on Turnberry's Miller track, to finish at 7-under 134. Paula Creamer (71) and Angela Stanford (70) were 2 under.

Only seven players were under par through two rounds, with Meena Lee (71), Momeko Ueda (72) and Kyeong Bae (71) at 1 under to round out that elite group.

The final two rounds will be played on the Soffer course.

BMW Asian Open

SHANGHAI, China -- China's Zhang Lian-Wei and Dutchman Robert-Jan Derksen shot 3-under 69s to share the second-round lead in the BMW Asian Open.

Derksen and Zhang had 5-under 139 totals.

Northern Ireland's Darren Clarke was a stroke back after a 69 in the event sanctioned by European and Asian tours.
