Description:
Back in the mid eighties, I was involved in a little known Sacramento, California band, called ' Critical Mass . ' We were a little bit punk, and a lotta bit heavy. If we were still together these days, this tune would be our anthem.

Lyrics:
Your daddy hates my hair, mommy hates my guts
Your little sister likes to kick me in the nuts
There’s nothing I like more than scaring little, straight laced monkeys

It’s 10 o’clock, I got a six-pack in my trunk
I say what the hell, let’s get drunk

don’t know what you see in me, they just don’t understand
They think Im a criminal, and I don’t argue
There’s nothing I like more than scaring little, straight laced monkeys

Its 10 o’clock, and my bros are back in town,
If you speak up, we’re gonna beat you into tomorrow
It’s 10 o’clock, I got a sixer in my trunk
I say what the hell, let’s get drunk?

Hardware:
Line 6 Podxt, using a Sex Pistols Guitar tone, downloaded from the line6 tonebank.

If so we'll be right over - if not we'll be over to raid your fridge anyway. Need any smokes?

Kick me in my nuts - excellent.

Sounds like Green Day took their entire career from this track!

that's real punky - love the coughing at the end - you carried that Johnny Rotten thing off brilliantly. Fast and furious - great.

Brilliant!! — 05/04/08 - 04:19:11 AM

.. and above all lots of fun! Love the ending .. RAFLMAO.

It's definitely got Sex Pistols with some Metallica's version of 'Last caress' thrown in .. and I agree, the overall effect is something akin to Green Day .. but like ... 10 times better. High spirited, energy packed, well performed and mixed (as I'd expect) and well ..bloody marvelous.

LOL: the coughing at the end - brilliant to leave that in - I can't count how many times my own vocal takes end exactly that way!

very well said. This is way to cool Allen. Really liked your take on the vocals as well as the guitars. and a bass solo, who knew.

I played in basement bands that played for free beer. the songs would get faster and faster, we would get drunker & drunker.

thanx — 05/04/08 - 12:19:00 PM
to everyone who commented and/or downloaded this one. i had the music for it right after the cbgb thing was announced, but only did the vocal tracks last night. it was alot of fun to use a less distorted and less modern tone. i tried to keep everything kind of era and genre specific, and i hoped i pulled it of convincingly. west coast punk, and a small amount of british punk had a great influence on my playing, and this was a way for me to say thank you to all those who fought the established music scene and those who gave popular music the middle finger..

wow — 05/04/08 - 02:05:15 PM
outstanding everything. yu did a great job on the vocals, not just the performance (which blows me away), but keeping it all within the era and making it mesh so seamlessly. The ending was just too funny.

Excellent vocals — 05/04/08 - 02:18:01 PM
Very faithful to the idiom. You are a real chameleon vocally. Guitar playing is off the hook dude. Made me want to have a drink after hearing those bombastic solo bursts!

Its a cool punk track that I can easily imagine lots of pogo dances in the crowd. Very well composed track. Good guitars and love the end with the coughing, cool.

This track is great Dean! Definitely has the punk structure. I had to play around with the less distortion on my CBGB tracks as well. Fun experiment
I'll go have a drink now.

Yikes! — 05/05/08 - 08:03:35 AM
This is bloody flawless! The guitars wreck everything standing for a quarter-mile around, and the vocals are unbelievable - I could smell the beer and the smokes and the sweat. The production fires it like a mortar shell, and the crispness and clarity don't take any of the edge off at all. Awesome job.

wow! — 05/05/08 - 08:23:56 AM
when you sent this, i listened about 3x to be sure what i heard was real.
the vocals barely resemble the "allen" i know.
that's impressive. like norman said, you really do blend right into whatever it is you are doing.
this song kicks a$$ and takes names, bro!
very raw and authentic. excellent job

Yeah! — 05/05/08 - 02:10:51 PM
Always good advice.

Makes me want to jump right in and start slam dancing, but then I thought about how sore I'd be in the morning and, of course, I can't drink too much because I'd have to get up and go to work in the morning and, of course I really don't like to drive if I've been drinking. And is the beer a nice pale ale, maybe an import......?

Damn, what happened to 1985 and being 18.....?

Awesome Job!!! — 05/05/08 - 04:59:13 PM

LOL! Love the lyrics!!

Overall one great tune my friend.

BTW, the whole three people in the audience thing, GREAT idea! LOL

love this. did you guys do shows in Sacto with Macabre Shocks?

[ Reply to This ]
hell's yes — 05/05/08 - 09:17:13 PM
knew all those guys...we used to play the oasis ballroom and the eldorado sallon with those guys.
mainly it was once a week at the oasis. oh, and spanky's as well. yup, critical mass was a bit of a big thing in sac for a bit, but after a while, the metal got darker, and we were just too much fun for everyone. our songs were partly tongue in cheek. we had some really heavy ones, but we also had some party songs like one about our guitarist, vinnie garcia, and one really fast instruemtnal by our other guitarist, mike farrell. great times. i am still in contact with vince and eric, our old bassist. whatever happened to the shocks?
