Mayors Meet with Knoxville's Destination ImagiNation Team
Mayor Haslam and Mayor Ragsdale with Students
Mayor Haslam and Mayor Ragsdale met with the Destination ImagiNation team named "Knoxville Go For It." This team is the only one from Knoxville that will take part in the Destination ImagiNation Global Finals May 21-24 at the Convention Center and UT.

New Neighborhood Coordinator Named
Mayor Bill Haslam announced today that David Massey has agreed to become the City of Knoxville’s Neighborhood Coordinator. Massey, who has extensive experience working on neighborhood and community issues, succeeds Jason Woodle, who has accepted an offer to join the Tennessee Valley Authority’s Corporate Responsibility and Diversity Organization.

City's 311 Call Center Celebrates
Three Year Anniversary

311. One Number. One Call. The City of Knoxville’s Call 311 Center celebrates its third anniversary today - more than 600,000 calls after it began operations on the morning of May 5, 2005, by answering calls to a single city department. Today the office’s seven-member staff handles non-emergency calls for all the city’s departments, something it took nearly 20 people across city government to do before the 311 System was established.

Mayor Presents Budget
Mayor Bill Haslam presented a 2008-2009 City of Knoxville budget Thursday showing that the city is in good financial condition despite a difficult economic climate nationwide. The city’s budget includes funds to continue city services at current levels, escalates the city’s ongoing redevelopment efforts and unveils an ambitious plan to raise employee salaries to market rates in just three years – all without raising taxes or dipping into the city’s fund balance for operating money.

SmartFIX40 I-40 Closure Information
SmartFIX40 Detour Starts May 1st
A short section of Interstate 40 between James White Parkway (exit 388A) and Hall of Fame Drive (exit 389) are now closed for reconstruction. Local traffic can use James White Parkway (exit 388A) and Hall of Fame Drive (exit 389) to access the downtown area, the South Knoxville Bridge and Neyland Drive. Traffic that normally passes through downtown on I-40 has to use I-640 or I-275 to bypass the closure.

East Tennessee Healthcare Center Breaks Ground
Groundbreaking for East TN Healthcare Ctr
Mayor Haslam, Mayor Ragsdale, Mike Edwards, Dr. Kamilia Kozlowski, Dr. Tracy Dobbs, and Dr. Terry Douglass spoke at the groundbreaking ceremony for the East Tennessee Healthcare Center on Wednesday, May 7. Knoxville Comprehensive Breast Center and Tennessee Cancer Specialists will anchor the new $35 million medical office development that will be located in the Dowell Springs Business Park.
