ENC Alumni Nominated for Theatre Awards

Quincy, MA Feb. 15, 2007 - Jose Delgado and Marvelyn McFarlane, both graduates from the theatre and music programs at Eastern Nazarene College, are nominated for prestigious awards presented by the Independent Reviewers of New England (IRNE).

The IRNE Awards recognize the outstanding performers in the Boston theatre community and were founded by Beverly Creasey of the Journal Newspapers, and Larry Stark of TheaterMirror in 1997.

Delgado was nominated for Best Music Director for Parade by SpeakEasy Stage. He graduated from ENC in 1996 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Music. He is currently a Boston-based music director, private voice teacher, composer/arranger, and freelance performer throughout New England and also on faculty at Emerson College (chorus/theory). Since graduating he has been heavily involved in the ENC community. He has served as the director of ENC’s Gospel Choir, as well as helping with music ensembles and theatre production for Songs for a New World, Guys and Dolls, Music Man, Cinderella and You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown.

McFarlane was nominated for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama for The Bluest Eye presented by Company One. She was recognized for her role as Frieda in Lydia Diamond’s adaptation of Toni Morrison’s first novel. Immediately following graduation she made herself known in the Boston theatre community and this nomination is an indication of that. She graduated from ENC in 2007 with a degree in Communication Arts with a focus in theatre.
