6th May 2008

Tomorrow Wednesday 7th will be the start of the clubs weekly ride outs. We will be meeting at Castle Park Bangor at 6.45pm and will be covering basic bike set up and safety checks. If we have time we will go for a ride around the woodland and do some coaching, finishing around sunset at 9.00pm. The following Wednesday we will test it all out at Belvior for a time trial over some tricky single track.

23rd April 2008

Following a great days racing at Castlewellan the club would like to thank all the competitors for taking part and in particular all those who have contacted the club to comment on how much they enjoyed the event. Congratulations to all the winners. Xmtb, as many are aware, is made up of unpaid volunteers dedicated to running professional, safe, fun events for all age groups. The club thanks all those who helped out on the day to ensure all involved enjoyed the event. We hope to meet with NIFS in the near future regarding the standard of the course and planning of other events so we would welcome comments regarding the venue. Our aim is to improve on what we have built up over the years so please tell us what we need to do. Results for all races and overall placement is on K Cup site. Report can be downloaded here

17th April 2008

Race schedule is now complete and can be downloaded, the course is in great condition and is now mud and thorn free thanks to the many members that have worked all over the weekend to drain and clear the course. We have been assured by NIFS that the course will be free from fallen trees by Friday so all is in place for a grand finale to the K Cup series, Sign on will be open from 1-3 on Sat during practice and then on Sunday from 10am. Please download the race schedule for times and costs in advance as the ladies doing sign-on are also responsible for timekeeping and need to work very fast to be in many places at many times! Looking foward to an action packed weekend.

13th April 2008

K Cup course now finished and feedback from testers is very good. Just that tree problem! We have had to re-site the U8,U10 course to an area up at Moorish Tower as there is simply nowhere else safe due to double booking of Archery event, we hope parents will understand given the time restraints. The main thing is that the competitors are safe and have fun at the event. Map for course can now be downloaded.

Don't forget our club meeting is Monday 14th @ 8pm, We will be deciding on marshal points and if you cannot attend the meeting and can help us on race day please contact us to let us know. We need marshals for race starting at 12 lasting about 1 hour 15 mins and then the main race starting at 1.30 lasting about 2 hours 15 mins.

12th April 2008

Many thanks to the members who worked on the course today, a lot of work was done and the revised course is now almost complete. We still have 2 trees to be removed and have been assured by NIFS that they will be gone before Friday. We have still to finalize an under 8s 10s course so bear with us. We hope to finish the main course on Sunday 13th and also have a ride around it, so if you want to learn the course then feel free to join us from 11am to 5pm. The revised course map and route description can now be downloaded, please note that this map is for the purpose of the race only.

9th April 2008

This weekend we will be working on our course at Castlewellan Forest Park in preparation for round 4 of the K Capital cup race on Sunday 20th April.

Due to a double booking for that weekend we have been informed by NIFS that an archery event is taking place in the area on the left hand side of the fire road 150mts past the start line stretching to the top of the road at the car park. This will mean we will have to reroute the main course in 2 separate areas if the race is to run, the under 8s and 10s course will have to be created in a new area to the right hand side of the start line. The club voted at an extraordinary meeting held last Thursday to attempt to do the work this Saturday and Sunday, we need a lot of help to be able to submit the final route to the commissarie on Monday. We will be there from 10.30 to 17.00 on Sat and Sun. Also feel free to take your bike down and have a ride around the course that is just great! Think of it like a smoke break but better for you.

Club meeting this Monday 14th @ 8pm at Malone Rugby club. We hope to finalize all details for marshals and timekeepers for Castlewellan.

28th March 2008

Our Sunday ride out will meet at Knock crossroads for a start at 10 sharp, maybe a spin over to Bevior or down the coastal path, Robbie is the boss!

15th March 2008

Update: Due to very bad weather forecast for Sat morning we have decided to change our meeting at Castlewellan to Monday 17th. Moneyscalp ride out starts at 11am Sunday morning. We are meeting at Castlewellan Forest on Monday 17th at 10.30 to finalize the K Cup course to be held on April 20th and give people a chance to try out the best trail in Ireland! We will guide you through the main course as well as the under 12 and 14s course. As well as inviting cyclists we need people to inspect the course and  remove debris with a rake (supplied). This is a good opportunity for parents to see what your kids have to ride over and encourage them along the way.

12th March 2008

Another great days racing at Bangor, many thanks to all that attended our series of races and from the feedback today it seems a good time was had by all that took part. Sadly Castle Park may not be around next year due to some sort of Olympic water feature being built but in true MTB thinking Never say Never! Results from today can now be downloaded. Andy Potts may do a report on round 4 but I think he burned out on round 3 ! Remember to keep an eye on the K-Cup site and Xmtb will run the best race of the year on Sunday 20th April 2008 at Castlewellan Forest Park.
