Code of Conduct

This Code of Conduct applies to all participants attending the New Zealand Radio Awards whether finalist, invited guest, paying ticket holder or other. It is designed as a guide to the standards of behavior required.

The Code of Conduct is written and enforced by the Radio Industry Awards Committee, a sub-committee of the Radio Broadcasters Association (RBA).

The penalty for breach of the Code of Conduct will be based on the level on the seriousness of the offence as determined by the Radio Industry Awards Committee.

Radio Award participants may be banned from future entry or participation in the Radio Awards for a number of years or life.

Action may be initiated by the Radio Industry Awards Committee or as a result of a written complaint by an attendee.

Participants are responsible for their own behavior and should not bring the Radio Awards into disrepute through their activities while attending.

There are three Principles that define the Code of Conduct.

FIRST PRINCIPLE

Respect for the rights of others. This includes but is not limited to colleagues, judges, sponsors, invited guests, production and venue staff and others.

  • Treat all people at the Radio Awards ceremony with courtesy and respect, avoiding behavior which might cause distress or disrupt the function.

SECOND PRINCIPLE

Acceptance speeches are appropriate and compatible with the Radio Awards aim to showcase the best of New Zealand radio.

  • It is not permitted to use language or gestures that seriously offends any person because of their race, religion, colour, descent or national or ethnic origin, sex, marital status, age, sexual orientation, disability or religious or ethical beliefs.

  • Criticism that is sufficiently strong or persistent so as to harass, or constitute a personal attack or otherwise intimidate a person who may or may not be present is not allowed.

  • It is not appropriate to use language or gestures that are obscene, offensive or insulting. The use of swear words must be avoided.

  • Respect the privacy of individuals. You may not mention private, personal details that have no relevance to the Award you are receiving.

THIRD PRINCIPLE

Intimidation, bullying, threat of assault or inappropriate and deliberate physical contact between participants during the Radio Awards function will result in the immediate expulsion of the offenders by security staff at the direction of the Radio Awards Committee, and may be followed by a ban for succeeding Awards at the discretion of the Radio Industry Awards Committee.
