The American Lumber Company/Robert Dollar Lumber Company built a sawmill and logging railroad in 1882.  The logging railroad ran northwest across what is now the site of a dam across the Tahquamenon River.  The Danaher & Melendy Lumber Company of Ludington took over the Dollarville Lumber Company in 1896 and built a 12 mile logging railroad to tap the forests.  The company reorganized as the Danaher Hardwood Company and the sawmill at Dollarville shut down in 1909 after sawing nothing but hardwood for the last five years.  [MIRX8]
