Toby Mountain

Dr. Toby Mountain, President
Dr. Toby Mountain has music degrees from Princeton University (BA, 1972) and the University of California at Berkeley (MA, 1978 PhD, 1981) and considerable experience in the audio field as a sound engineer and producer. He worked as a recording engineer at the University of California from 1976 to 1980 and produced numerous recording projects at world-class studios in the Bay Area (The Automatt, Different Fur, Russian Hill). He also spent several years working at the Stanford University Center for Computer Research in Music and Acoustics (CCRMA) and the MIT Experimental Music Studio, two facilities which have pioneered research in computer music. Dr. Mountain was also an Associate Professor of Music at the University of Connecticut in Storrs for two years.

In 1985 Toby Mountain founded Northeastern Digital Recording, Inc., the first digital mastering facility in New England. Toby's mastering credits include such artists as The Beach Boys, David Bowie, Frank Zappa, Richard Thompson, Morphine, Joan Jett, Jay Geils, Arlo Guthrie, and Alison Krauss. Toby has mastered several gold and platinum selling albums and dozens of albums that have been nominated for the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences' annual "Grammy" awards. He is also a member of the Audio Engineering Society, and has published many articles in professional audio journals including "Mix" and "Electronic Musician."



Anne Shepard

Anne Shepard, Operations Manager

Anne Shepard has been Operations Manager at NDR since 1989. Her duties include customer service, accounting, marketing, CD-ROM and ECD Premastering, and CD Production. Anne enjoys the work ethic and camaraderie among her colleagues at NDR, and appreciates the diversity of our clients and their projects. Starting at Northfield Mount Hermon, Anne established a stong academic foundation, leading her to a Bachelor of Arts from Mount Holyoke College where she studied Music and Trumpet. She later earned a Bachelor of Music in Sound Recording Technology from The University of Massachusetts at Lowell, where she was awarded the President's Key for outstanding academic achievement.

Anne's understanding of music, computers, and audio technology helps her inform and assist clients in a variety of ways. Anne is a member of the Audio Engineering Society and serves on committees for the Boston AES Chapter, and New England Women in Audio. When she's not helping to maintain smooth operations at Northeastern Digital, Anne enjoys mountain biking, and coordinating events for fellow NMH alumni in eastern Massachusetts.
