Bio:
I'm a guy who never wanted to do anything but play music. I grew up with classic rock and prog rock before discovering punk and the new york dolls once I got to high school. As i got a little older (and less angry), I developed a love of all things sonic: noise, krautrock, psych, drones, ambient, shoegazing, cinematic, electronic, tone poems, repetition. But I also love a good pop hook and backup vocals. I gave up music as a career a while back (tired of starving and touring); but I need to do it still. It's the one thing in life I can be in control of. while you're here, take advantage of the player and check out a couple of my old songs (PLEEZ). Find this artist in drop-down: MY COLLABORATIONS SO FAR I've only done a few so far on Macjams, but am always up for it. If you want to do something together send me a message. I love hearing someones take on my music, and I love to play on or around with someone elses music: Ember Ember - Composed by Drakonis . This is an awesome ambient piece that was cool enough to post for others to have their way with. It was my first ever re-mix, and i had a great time. His version is a beautifully symphonic sort of ambience, where I went for psych melancholy (which I like to think is my forte'): Drakonis' Version My Version Eve - This was a piece I did before I had a keyboard. For the most part it's all loops I constructed out of snippets of my own songs I altered in Audacity and then dumped over a drum loop in GB. My original version is kind of a slow brooding psych ambient piece. Having stumbled upon spruce Macjams page, I asked him if he would do something to one of my songs. Then I promptly sent him the wrong song. But being a good sport, he remixed it anyways; and did a tremendous job. His version is a really tasty Electro-pop take on the song, at times it reminds me of New Order. His MIDI expertise has caused me to be green with envy. Original version Tempted Re-mix by Spruce Unfinished/Untitled here is an awesome remix that biba_nova did (2 versions) of a work in progress that i had posted. He took it in completely unexpected directions, and did an amazing job. The second version features mystified on some truly ethereal vocals. She sounds awesome, and the 2 of them are genius. He posted it under ambient, but i would probably call it downtempo. whatever you call it, the man is good. original unfinished version biba_nova's "women take the ants away" biba_nova and mystified "your voices sound great inside my head" Only The Sun Knows This was originally called One Trick Pony and is by spruce . I thought it was a great electro-pop song, and he was kind enough to let me have a go at it. I added some vocals and a string part: "Only the Sun Knows" Check out Spruces original here: "One Trick Pony" "Unkind (Thoughtful Remix)" A remix that spruce did of my song "Unkind " . He took this in a totally different direction than what I did. He took my lonely sad-core song and turned it into a techno-pop confection. "Green Fields of Canada (Space Re-Mix)" this is a droney psych-folk version of a beautiful traditional Irish folk song originally done by Rebsi. "check out the original here" "Down in the Valley" is a traditional jail song that and I collaborated on. He is awesome, you definitely need to check out his stuff; he did all of the vocals and guitars, and I added all of the schmaltzy stuff. If we lived closer, I'd probably irritate the hell out him trying to get together and jam all the time. "Delay on Ten (w/Mystified)" I had written an instrumental piece, and then as an experiment I added an acapella that Mystified had posted "Kyrie" . It was mostly to see if I could figure it out, and I think the end results are great, she has a beautiful voice. "Waters Edge (w/Buckhorn)" Took a sketch that Buckhorn had made of acoustic guitar and him humming and added some ambient textures to it. I think it turned out really nice. "Level of Actual (w/Bud)" This was a sound collage that Bud had put together on his laptop while traveling for work, and it includes samples of his daughters band.I added some synths and ambient sounds, and then sang over it. Really like this one very much.Original Instrumental" With Vic Holman "You Breathe God" I had recorded this as a shoegazer song and then had Vic lay down some guitar work over the "Original Mix" (because he is a God). No Fault" This was a beatles-esque tune that I wrote and thought Vic would be perfect on (he was). This was the first collab we did together. Mountain This was a piece that I put together quickly and couldn't come up with a melody for it. After posting it as an open collaboration, people started playing with it; heres what they came up with" "My Original Version" "Morning Light" came up with a great improvised ambient sort of vocal for Mountain. "Her Version" . "Michael Wark" laid a nice guitar piece over the top in "His Version" " Mystified" and " Biba Nova" collaborated together on their own version, called " Mount St. Helens" . And being the pro's they are, they even did a " New and Improved, Revised Mix" . Both featuring rare vocal performances by Biba Nova. " Biba Nova" also did an amazing version he called " The Saintly Mix" " Alannah" also did an sweet version that could have been in a 007 movie. " Alannahs' Version" At this point, I started to feel under pressure (from myself), so I did a " Vocal Version" "I'm Still Waiting" This is a great 80's type of song that "EZ Amor" wrote; it should have been in A John Hughes movie back in the day. I sang over his sound bed and "Birdman Wayne" laid a nice guitar part over it. Find this artist in drop-down:

Music Background
played cello as a kid, sang and played noisey guitar in a lot of indie bands, had a few record deals, and toured a bit until I was forced to grow up. i'm actually glad, as I found playing music to be a really distasteful way of making a living; turned it into a job.
Music Skills
i'm alright. my ear is better than my technique, but that leads folks to think I can play better than I can.
Just started recording on my computer after having a kid (I was always an analog guy, but more out of convenience than any sort of bias). Been having a lot of fun; I've been doing things fast and loose, mostly due to ignorance of the medium. Looking forward to learning new tricks, as I love experimentation. Eventually I will add another computer to my arsenal, so that I can record real instruments more easily (they are all downstairs, my mac is upstairs), and little things like condenser mics, proper interfaces, pre-amps, etc...
learned piano a few years ago (sort of) after finding one on the side of the road. really. it was a yamaha clavinova. I''m not really good at it, but I can play chords and write songs. I can generally play what I want to hear. most of the time when writing a song, I structure as little as possible. I like to just sit down and record. I like the spontaneous things that just happen while improvising.
Music Hardware
m-audio 49e MIDI keyboard (it was cheap), MXL USB mic, iMic, Line6 Pocket Pod, and a ton of real instruments (bass, organs, fender rhodes, theremin, guitars, old effects pedals, old synths and electronic instruments, percussion), I use an old Tascam 4 track to manipulate sounds sometimes (and it's fun to pull out old tapes and have my way with them). SM57 mics, midiverb. I have pretty much been sticking to the software stuff for now, although I have big plans eventually.
