Industry developing tourism on the side, new business opportunities surfacing at Changbin Industrial Park

November 2, 2007

A new business operations model combining tourism and industry is emerging
at the Changbin Industrial Park, according to a report by the Central News
Agency.

Business opportunities are resurfacing as manufacturers in the area such
as TMG Enterprises and Brand's have started successful tourist attractions
that have complimented their industrial development.

TMG's Taiwan Glass Hall, which features glass art from local artists, has
hosted 600,000 visitors in the past two years. Brand's, a popular health
foods manufacturer, operates its Health Museum near Changbin, which sees
50,000 visitors every year.

The trend is starting to catch on – a 'museum of the human body' is
slated to be built by Show Chwan Hospital and the National Science Museum,
which is expected to be a strong attraction in the community for its
educational appeal.

Located in the Changhua-Haibin area on the west coast, the Changbin park
initially attracted little interest among manufacturers. This changed with
the government's 006688 rent incentives program, said the MOEA Industrial
Development Bureau (IDB).

According to the IDB figures, there were 155 companies at the Changbin
Industrial Park in 2002 – by Sept. 2007, the number of companies
increased to 306. Yearly revenues have grown from NTD 46.2 billion in 2002
to NTD 117.8 billion in 2007. 179 companies are renting approximately
133.8 hectares of land under the 006688 program.

By integrating their production activities with tourism, manufacturers in
the area are improving their corporate visibility and image while
increasing revenue, said the IDB.

The MOEA also predicts that as companies finish construction of their
facilities and enter production, they will see the integration of tourism
and production as a new business opportunity. In addition, the Changbin
Industrial Park could see record revenues if plans come through for the
construction of a glass processing area and wind generation factory.
