That's all folks

I guess this is as good a time as any to make it official: I’m putting this ‘ere website on the bloggy mothballs. I’ve been giving this a lot of thought, but the truth is that the decision isn’t an intellectual one — I’m sort of just over it. With the pink accents, the paisley background, the local news: it’s all gotten a little restrictive. The truth is that I started this site because I thought there was a need for it, and today the need is well covered by dozens of excellent sites, from Covert Overt to Miami Art to TM and EoM, and they’re all held together by Rick’s daily grind. I just don’t have desire to keep up with it all anymore.

SO. Thanks to everyone who’s been checking in regularly over these three years. It’s been a ton of fun, and the support has been really really overwhelming.

Where we’re at as of now is this: I have a new thing, More Blog about Buildings and Food, that I’m putting together. It hopefully will be more open-ended, less locally-obsessed, and more infrequently updated then CM, but will hopefully also dovetail pretty well. I still owe you a slideshow of FOOD from the Georgia/Florida trip, and that’s going to pop up there in the next day or two. I also have a Twitter lest you forget, and you should totally subscribe to my updates. Further, friends and people that I actually know should get their own Twitter accounts post-haste. (No eye-rolling. You’ll thank me later. And btw, I’m reforming myself and will be regularly checking voicemail and e-mail from now on.)

My goal is to keep Critical Miami up in perpetuity. I’ll probably make some final adjustments to the linkroll, and some other tweaks becoming of a defunct blog (ie archives easier to access, etc.). That’s about all, folks. Hope to see you at the new place.

What a shame.. though I know exactly how you feel!
I don’t read those other blogs mentioned, and while they’re probably as good as you say, but you served a great niche with this one.
I will now have to read the NT (ughhh!!) for my weekend happenings.

    Good luck.

I’m sorry to see this site go, but I totally understand about the work involved. It’s important to evolve, follow your heart and blog about what you’re passionate about. Looking forward to the new project!

    Alesh,

    A bad morning. Zap!
The end of Critical Miami on the same day as George Carlin.

Personally your place has been an almost daily destination for a mix art n’local political concerns that has been perfect.

    Thanks.

    William Keddell

Maybe this is Alesh’s way of tributing the dearly departed George Carlin. With a big dirty joke. Maybe?

At times like these, I think of my favorite blog of all time, now off-line for over five years, which I’d stumbled across at random looking to see if a zine a friend of mine had published in high school, Haardvark, had an online presence.

The final post talked about a collective exploration of the expression “a little while.” (as in, “i’m going to stop posting for a little while.” in protest, as I recall, to the beginning of the gulf war. somehow.) It also talked about Nick Cave, a musician whom I didn’t much care for then and don’t much care for now, and specifically his song “Into My Arms” which is actually astonishingly beautiful and touching, and an open letter he’d written to MTV in 1996, which when read tongue-in-cheek (and i see no other way to read it) is one of the more funny and poignant things of which to be read. It’s archived on his website.

What I’m trying to say is, sorry to bum you out. And thank you again.

You made this city a easier place to feel proud of and definitely deserve credit for running what I feel was the classiest blog I regularly read.

I hope I get the opportunity to one day buy you a beer for your efforts, good sir.

Sorry to see you go. I never posted here, but I’ve been a faithful reader for the last couple of years. I loved the local touch and helped spark a new love for my city and see it’s potential. Thank you, thank you, thank you…

So does this mean no more eighth row symphony seats, explorations of parks, or reason to explore a new French restaurant and eat escargot? What’s a girl to do? Will I have to find another date?

  26. JD    Tue Jun 24, 12:17 AM #

it was awesome while it lasted

  27. nicfitkid    Tue Jun 24, 12:44 AM #

Godspeed, Alesh, and may your new blog take you wherever you want to go. I’ll miss CM.

Was it something that happened in Georgia? Must have been an inspirational ride.

Well, you were doing a great job. Thanks.

If you just need help removing the pink paisley accents I’m sure one of these web designers could help you.

Alesh. I’ll miss CM. You did a great job. Good luck on your next endeavor!

  32. Carolina    Tue Jun 24, 10:52 AM #

I enjoyed your blog. No doubt your new project will be just as pleasurable to read. Every end is a new beginning.

  33. alesh    Tue Jun 24, 01:01 PM #

Every day is a winding road. The new blog is not an “endeavor” in the same sense that CM was — it’s going to be much less serious, much less regularly updated, and much less focused.

That said, I’ve got a slideshow up on the meals of Georgia and Florida from my bike trip. Go look.

  34. Elad    Tue Jun 24, 05:01 PM #

This seriously sucks. But I understand where you’re coming from, Alesh.

    Critical Miami will be missed.

  35. lara    Tue Jun 24, 09:57 PM #
