FAMILY: Plateosauridae.
ERA: Early Jurassic ( Pliensbachian - Toarcian 195.3 - 176.5 Ma ).
SIZE: Length 2.4 - 4m (8 - 13 ft).
LOCATION: North America.
FOSSILS: 4 incomplete skeletons, juvenile to adult.
COMMENTS: Ammosaurus was a plateosaurid with small feet but big hands with thumbs with formidable claws. It was first discovered in 1890.
SPECIES LIST:
A. major Marsh, 1889/1891 (type) , senior synonym of the juvenile A. solus Marsh, 1892/von Huene, 1932, Anchisaurus major and including Anch. solus.
