Today on Doing Time - Monday July 14th

A big bail out might be in the works for Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae. What exactly does “too big to fail” mean? Is it true? What would happen if the two mortgage giants, collectively financing $12 Trillion in loans, were to collapse?

Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney will tell us why Congress has a lower approval rating than President Bush. Also, about her new book, “Rumors of Our Progress Have Been Greatly Exaggerated: Why Women's Lives Aren't Getting Any Easier--And How We Can Make Real Progress For Ourselves and Our Daughters.”

On the war front, troops may be pulling out fast now that violence is calming down in Iraq. Does this mean that the surge worked? Were anti-war liberals right? And who does this really benefit in the campaign.

In case you missed it, here is Barack Obama’s Op-Ed in the NY Times about his Iraq policy.

CALL KUBY LIVE – 866-303-2270

Guess what? All of your economic worries, it turns out, are just mental. Or so says John McCain’s economic advisor, Phil Gramm. He told the Washington Times that Americans are a bunch of whiners. How do you feel about that? Kuby didn’t like it one bit. Frankly, neither does McCain. We’ve got his irate response on tape for you.

On the other side of the economic campaign aisle, Hillary Clinton still owes millions of dollars from her primary campaign. Barack says he wants to help out, but the debt is becoming a burden. His supporters aren't ponying up for this cause like they have for other calls for cash. Should he keep imploring supporters to pay it? We want to ask skeptical Clinton supporters, if he paid it, would you drop any residual bitterness and get behind him? And to Obama lovers, should he just give up on her debt? What’s the point?

Today on Doing Time - Thursday July 10th, 2008

What’s the big deal about Jesse Jackson and his nutty comments? Was Fox right to play the off-mic audio of the Rev saying nasty things? Instead of promoting some non-existent fight between the two leaders, we will look into Jackson’s actual critique of Obama for talking down to black people, not just his foul mouth.

In other new, man are there a lot of hearings on Capitol Hill today. Don’t worry, we’re not CSPAN Extra Edition, but we will be giving you the highlights of the saucy moments (when they exist) and the takeaway of what bombastic confrontational political moments mean for you and the ones you love. For instance: will Karl Rove be held in contempt of Congress for not showing up? Was this Attorney General’s appearance more forthright than the last one’s? How could it not be? And why are they talking about Chantix and Vets?

Congress Woman Carolyn Maloney will tell us what she saw.

Today on Doing Time - Wednesday July 9th, 2008

Well both candidates are apologizing today. Barack Obama says he shouldn’t have thrust his young daughters into the TV spotlight and John McCain wishes he hadn’t said it’s good to kill Iranians. That last one was a joke, not a Freudian slip, he insists.

But mostly what John McCain is doing today is bragging. He’s again reminding us about his military experience, his Vietnam POW period, and how certain other Americans who didn’t fight the “enemy” in Nam aren’t in his league. In his new ad he compares his caged experience of the 60s with the Woodstock crowd … any flower children out there take offense? Let us know. Kuby is bound to provoke with his personal response to McCain’s high horse here.

We’ll also hear about what Latinos think of the candidates and their parallel speeches yesterday. Lizette Olmos of the League of United Latin American Citizens will help us on this one.

Today on Doing Time - Tuesday July 8th, 2008

Ron Kuby is back, live and ready with a long weekend’s worth of titillating talk topics.

We’ll start with the big debate topic on the campaign trail: the economy. Which candidate has better economic chops? Neither one has a particularly impressive list of economic accomplishments. So who are they consulting? What do economists say? And, in McCain’s case anyway, how different is his rhetoric this week from years of declared fiscal ignorance?

On a related note – will either candidate be able to save social security? We’re looking into it.

Did you know that Iraqi’s really want us out of Iraq? Well more and more the politicians over there are irking the Bush administration and scaring the state department staffers. They’re speaking out, talking about timelines and ignoring the party line.

And since we know you want it, we’ll talk about FISA a little too.
