Max Trenorden MLA Member for Avon Candidate for the Agricultural Region (#1)
About Max Max is one of the most recognised parliamentarians in regional WA.
Elected to the 33rd Parliament as Member for Avon in February 1986, max was re-elected in 1989, 1993, 1996, 2001 and 2005. Have recently celebrated 20 years in Parliament, he now proudly wears the title of 'Father of the House', the current longest serving member of Parliament.
Quite an achievement for someone who spent time as a farmer, then 18 years as a successful insurance agent and broker. Max was born in Wyalkatchem in the central Wheatbelt and educated a the local primary school, then later at Scotch College.
His foray into politics begans in the early 80's when he was involved in the Northam Economic Development Association. After a number of years it grew into the Avon Community Development Foundation, which has been instrumental in developing the highly innovative Avon Industrial Park.
In 2001, Max was elected Leader of the Parliamentary National Party. In 2004, further to entering into a Coalition in Opposition with the Liberal party he became Deputy Leader of the Coalition and Shadow Minister for Energy and Science.
During his political career, Max has served on a number of Parliamentary committees and was chairman of the Public Accounts and Expenditure Review Committee and Chairman of the Australasian Council of Public Accounts and Expenditure Committee.
His passion for politics stems from his loyalty for regional WA. Max became heavily involved with the Chamber of Commerce and local Government to assist in improving the living standars and services for country people in his area, as well as Western Australia.
This mantra still rings true, as he continues to work diligently in his electorate and the rest of the State, to ensure country people are looked after.
An avid golfer, Max is a proud father of three children and grandfather to two.
State Election The next State Election will be contested under the new electoral boundaries.
About the new Agricultural Region The Agricultural Region includes the Legislative Assembly electorates of Central Wheatbelt, Geraldton, Moore and Wagin. Enrolment (at 26 February 2007) 82,479.
