Portugal defender Fernando Meira leaves Stuttgart for Galatasaray

STUTTGART, Germany: Portugal defender Fernando Meira is leaving Stuttgart for Turkish club Galatasaray.

Stuttgart said Wednesday it was releasing Meira two years before the end of his contract after reaching a deal with Galatasaray. No financial details were given.

Meira's departure came one day after Stuttgart completed the signing of Khalid Boulahrouz from Chelsea.

Meira joined Stuttgart in 2002 and won the Bundesliga title in 2007 as captain.
