Aimee Allison New KPFA Morning Show Co-Host
Acclaimed Activist, Author, and Broadcast Journalist Takes Over as Drive-Time Program Anchor

(Berkeley, CA - September 10, 2007) Today Aimee Allison takes the reins as co-host of KPFA Radio's Morning Show. Aimee is an author, public affairs television host, celebrated political activist, and a leader of the counter-recruitment movement. The Morning Show is the most-listened to local program on KPFA airwaves. Its daily two-hour mix of news, current affairs, analysis, and cultural programming can be heard from 7am to 9am on 94.1FM in the Bay Area and 88.1 FM on KFCF in Fresno.

"I'm thrilled to join the KPFA family," says Allison. "For me, this is a wonderful opportunity to highlight the people and the places leading change in this country."

The Stanford-educated Allison, who is African American, was a recent Green Party candidate for the Oakland City Council. Aimee was a Conscientious Objector in the First Gulf War and has since been active in opposing recruitment by the armed forces. She is the co-author with David Solnit of the recent book, Army of None: Strategies to Counter Military Recruitment, End War and Build a Better World, published by Seven Stories Press. She's also a contributor to 10 Excellent Reasons Not to Join the Military.

Aimee has worked as a host for Local Edition, Technology News, and Bay-TV, as well as contributing to films like the documentary "A Question of Conscience". Her writings have been featured in a wide range of publications. The multi-talented Allison has also worked as an educator, organizational advisor, and nonprofit business consultant. "Aimee epitomizes many fundamental things that KPFA holds dear", says KPFA's acting general manager Lemlem Rijio. "An outspoken opponent of war, she combines principled politics with a commitment to high journalistic standards." Allison takes over the Morning Show co-host position from Andrea Lewis, who is on leave for a year from KPFA after being awarded a Knight Fellowship at Stanford.
