With electronica's current role as the Cinderella-like sibling to nu-electro and trance, the geeky music has had to call any port home. At one low point, acclaimed German duo Mouse on Mars recorded the soundtrack to Glam, a 1998 film starring Ali McGraw and Tony Danza that never saw theatrical release; luckily the soundtrack did. Far from its feeble surroundings, Glam is a beautiful and vital record. MOM's Andi Toma and Jan St. Werner have made genre defying albums before (Vulvaland, Ioara Tahiti, Autoditacker), but Glam does it all, mixing dolphin love calls with creaking horror squirms, and barren Martian beats with gentle, deer-frolicking sweetness. "Hi Court Low Cut" sounds like a heavenly church choir swimming with robotic rats. "Tankpark" recalls a thigh undergoing liposuction. Tangled in broken beats, "Mood Leck Backlash" could be hungry alien children sucking on human body parts. Glam is what remains when two geniuses are left alone to work in peace.
