The Mana World released

We've decided to do a small release to fix some outstanding issues with the previous one. Some small feature additions were made as well, for example it is now possible to clear the chat window by typing /clear and a key was added for targetting the nearest player. Also, it is now possible to walk through other players with the keyboard (with the mouse this was already possible).

While we're making progress towards the new server and the 0.1.0 client release, recently peavey has been making some fixes for some long outstanding bugs on our eAthena server. We realize that one of them, a fix for the fast attack bug, has changed the gameplay and balance. Please know that we welcome any feedback from you regarding this change and also suggestions for further changes. (0 comments)

The Mana World 0.0.24 released

This release is our Christmas present to you! This version comes with many requested features like the ability to define your own key settings, handling connection loss better, trimming of chat messages and resizable buy/sell dialogs, as well as a lot of bug fixes. Other notable additions are support for female-specific hair styles, and XP-gaining notification.

On the technical side of things, this version brings support for dynamic sprite recoloring (at the moment only used for the different hair colors) and loaded resources are now no longer instantly thrown away when no longer used, which should reduce hiccups due to resource loading.

Of particular note is our new Mac release thanks to trapdoor, which fixes the long standing problem with update loading. Also, an additional Mac release that includes the music files should be coming soon.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year! (0 comments)

Christmas Event 2007

The Christmas event 2007 has started today. It is an event in two phases. The first phase is from now until Christmas (december 25th) and the 2nd phase is from Christmas until new year.

This time the event is something special. For the first time in the history of The Mana World we will have a cooperative event. This means everyone has to work together for the benefit of the community. At Christmas everyone who participated will get the same number of rewards depending on how well everyone did. It won't matter how well every single person did - only the accomplishment of the whole community will count. So everyone can help to make this years Christmas a very special one for everyone.

If you want to help to save this years Christmas go to the snow village and search for Santa Claus' assistant. He will tell you what to do. (1 comments)

The Mana World 0.0.23 released

Finally a release again which brings more than bug fixing. The biggest visible change in this release is the addition of a particle engine. Based on this, numerous particle effects were added, for example when hitting enemies or to animate a waterfall and torches. Look forward to more use of this particle engine in future releases.

Other small enhancements were made like the addition of a targeting cursor, UNIX man page and --version parameter. Finally, fixes have been made to the login process, character creation and window resizing. (5 comments)

The Mana World released

This is mostly a bug fixing release. This update is not required to continue playing, but we suggest you upgrade because it contains fixes for annoying bugs like the appended _M or _F to the user name after creating a new account and graphic bugs at the south and east ends of some maps. The updater was also fixed up a bit, so the "could not find equipment.xml" error should no longer appear. Finally, the compile issues against Guichan 0.6.1 have been resolved. (0 comments)

The Mana World released

This release should fix the annoying bug of player sometimes starting to walk when clicked on the GUI. Furthermore we switched to Guichan 0.6.0 (when you want to compile from source be sure you have this version). (0 comments)

The Mana World 0.0.22 released

Back in version 0.0.20 we had introduced females, but until now their clothes looked the same as they would on a male. Version 0.0.22 fixes this, with clothing following the natural shape of the female body. The character selection dialog has also been upgraded, and will show your character with its full equipment. In shops, the list of items has been enhanced with icons. Aside visual improvements, monsters will now make sounds as they attack or get hit.

Numerous smaller issues were fixed. Among them are trading money, NPC dialogs staying open on respawn and joystick enabled option. Also, you can now hold your mouse button to keep walking, and you can walk through other players if there is no way around them.

Note that our update host changed to http://updates.themanaworld.org. If you're upgrading from a previous version and hadn't changed it yet, either update it in your config file or delete your config file. In the latter case it will be recreated with the new default setting. (0 comments)
