Is The Eco Craze Killing Cool Cars?

Now, don't get us wrong: We're not anti-efficient vehicles, and we actually think eco-friendly rides like the Volt and Tesla Roadster are pretty cool, but what we don't appreciate is the infiltration of high-and-mighty hybrid bits and pieces in our high-performance engine bays, slowing us down and ruining the experience.
Our rage is fueled mostly by Toyota's latest revelation that they've halted plans for their high-performance Supra resurrection due to too-high MPG ratings. Um, what? You mean to tell us that the eco-crazies have now taken hold of the auto industry's nether regions, squeezing so hard that all their testosterone has leaked out? Toyota will now focus on a battery-powered Prius instead. Great, that's what we need.
What's next -- a battery-powered Ferrari that will reach a blistering 80 mph in 45 seconds?

The dating game is a complex one, with lots of "rules" by which both guys and girls play. When it comes to the chase, who do you think should be doing the pursuing? Some guys like the idea of a woman asking them out (but we can't help but think a lot of those guys are just too chicken to do the chasing themselves). However, a lot of men and women prefer the old-fashioned method of pursuit -- guy get girl. We were surprised by some of the results of our Great Male Survey that looked at the various roles of men and women in relationships. So, when it comes to pursuing, what do you think?

The IOC President Jacques Rogge has come down on Jamaican gold medalist Usain Bolt for his unsportsmanlike conduct. Rogge has said that Bolt "…should shake hands with [his competitors] after the finish line.” Instead, however, Bolt prefers to put his No. 1 finger in the air and parade about like a modern-day Carl Lewis. There are other guilty offenders, such as Michael Phelps, the Chinese baseball team (which suffered three ejections in a game against the U.S.) and Chilean tennis player Fernando Gonzalez (he didn’t call a point against himself despite video evidence).

Avril Lavigne, the edgy Canuck with the big voice, is currently on a month-long Asian tour, with a stop scheduled for Malaysia at the end of August. However, with their independence day falling shortly after the concert, the youth wing of the Pan-Malaysian Islamic Party are arguing that Avril Lavigne's concert would promote wrong values because of her sexy moves on stage. Really? A wanna-be punk/pop singer like Avril is too sexy?

Last week, movie studio Warner Bros. announced that it would be pushing back the release of its highly anticipated film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince from November 2008 to July 2009. The news of the delayed release has created an uproar over the internet, with rabid fans of the series airing their disenchantment on sites such as Facebook and YouTube, as well as the series’ most popular fan sites, MuggleNet and The Leaky Cauldron.
And while we can understand how legions of young Harry Potter fans may be upset by the delayed release of the film, it seems that the protests are also coming from fans whose age hovers well above the 18-year-old mark. Given this, we’ve decided to ask: Is it OK for grown men to like Harry Potter?

Fashion has always been a feminine fascination, but statistics from the analysts at NDP Group Inc. show that now men are more into fashion and spending money on fashion-forward trends than women are. With sales of men's clothing rising 0.8% and women's falling 3.5% it's clear that men no longer hate shopping as much as we used to.
Plenty of you have noticed the increase in fashion-centered articles and reviews at AM and have given us positive feedback for it. Plenty of you have also voiced your criticisms regarding it; we've been told by more than a couple of readers that we're pansies for discussing fashion as much as we do.

Since the opening ceremonies, which included a CG fireworks show, China seems to have been faking it or maybe even cheating. This looming cloud (and we’re not talking smog) of speculation also includes the likes of passport forgery so that Olympians under the age of 16 can participate as well as unfair judging (Yang Wei’s single release in men’s individual gymnastics to seal his Gold Medal and Yang Yilin’s balance check on the balance beam beating Shawn Johnson’s superior performance). Given these examples, you decide and tell us what you think.

After killing his girlfriend's cat and leaving a trail of blood to lead her to the carcass, an L.A. man was sentenced to two years behind bars. While this case may be a bit extreme, it got us thinking: Should you really go to jail for animal cruelty?
Leaving your dog tied outside without shelter, forgetting to feed your goats and overcrowding your home with too many cats could make you a criminal in the USA, but not in Canada. Animal cruelty isn't considered a crime in the Great White North, so we wonder why our government is so strict about the treatment of fuzzy creatures -- after all, they're just animals. Does this mean we should be arrested for accidentally hitting birds while we drive or exterminating vermin from our property?
