The SteamFriends Awards for 2007
As the year 2007 is almost over and everybody is getting ready for the upcoming games in 2008 we wanted to have a look at what were the best 3 Steam games and what were the best HL2 based mods for the past year. The Steam Awards are now released!

Best Steam Game of 2007:
Gold Award for Team Fortress 2:

Golden Award for Team Fortress 2As one of the most innovating, refreshing and very good looking new multiplayer games of 2007 our community and admins came to the conclusion that Team Fortress 2 is definitely the number 1 Steam game of 2007. Apart from it's wonderfull graphics and updated Source engine, the game has an amazing amount of humor which is attached to each class and makes it very refreshing in all the first person shooters that were released for the last few years.

Second Best Steam Game of 2007: Silver Award for Portal:

Silver Award for PortalOfcourse included with the Orange box we also saw Portal as one of the most amazing games ever. Set in the mysterious Aperture Science Laboratories, Portal has been called one of the most innovative new games on the horizon and will offer gamers hours of unique gameplay. The game is designed to change the way players approach, manipulate, and surmise the possibilities in a given environment; similar to how Half-Life 2’s Gravity Gun innovated new ways to leverage an object in any given situation. Next to Team Fortress 2, Portal gets our silver Award for best Steam game of 2007.

Third Best Steam Game of 2007: Bronze Award for Call of Duty 4:

Bronze Award for Call of Duty 4When Activision announced their new Modern Infantry Combat game Call of Duty 4 they actually managed to get a lot of attention from Battlefield and Counter-Strike players as their new COD game offers a lot of unique gameplay while keeping the infantry gaming experience the number 1 most important feature set in today's battlefields. Ofcourse it was very hard for all of us to compare the 3 best Steam products and give each one the deserved spot in our awards but Call of Duty 4 is here to stay for some time and therefor earns the SteamFriends Bronze Award.

Best Source mod of 2007: Gold Award for Insurgency:

Golden Award for InsurgencyWhen Insurgency was announced back in 2004, everyone got very excited about their amazing idea of creating a modern infrantry combat mod for the Source engine. With the first beta release this year we saw a huge amount of players interested in it's unique gameplay features. Although a lot of bugs have made it hard for Insurgency to survive, we all think that this is the most innovating, unique and best graphics mod of 2007 and therefor the Insurgency team has earned the Golden SteamFriends Award. With the released patches and upcoming updates the mod has an interesting future to come and we definitely think it is only at the beginning of getting many more players to experience the gameplay of 'the Insurgency'.

Second Best Source mod of 2007: Silver Award for Empires 2.0:

Silver Award for EmpiresWith all these First person shooters you sometimes wanna play something that is completely different from all other games and the Empires team has shown us that a combination of FPS and Real Time Strategy is possible on the Source engine. Empires features huge maps with tank and infantry battles, RTS gameplay in all ways with a commander controlling it's troops, setup new buildings and way more. Although the graphics are a bit behind in some areas, with their upcoming updates and amazing unique gameplay we definitely think Empires 2.0 has earned the SteamFriends Silver award. Keep up the great work guys!

Third Best Source mod of 2007: Bronze Award for Dystopia:

Bronze Award for DystopiaOfcourse we cannot forget about the cyberpunk mod of this year, Dystopia. Dystopia puts the player into intense combat situations in a high tech world spanned by computer networks. As either Punk Mercenaries or Corporate Security Forces the player will fight through the physical world to gain access, via jack-in terminals, to cyberspace. Dystopia is one of the most, best polished mods we have ever seen so far and they definitely have earned themselves the Bronze Award for 2007. We hope to see more of this amazing game in the nearby future and can only say "Keep up the good work team!".
