Iraq-Style Checkpoints Put the "Occupied" into "Occupied DC"

"Operation Blue Curtain" is neighborhood vehicle/passenger ID checkpoints beginning this weekend and beginning in Trinidad. Pedestrians are not explicitly targeted but should expect harassment if NYC's experience with this sort of thing is any guide.

Small but Significant Victory re: Politics and Prose canceling Palestinian's Book talk

Politics and Prose bookstore owner Carla Cohen has reversed her decision to cancel Palestinian- American author Saree Makdisi's talk on his new book, "Palestine Inside Out: An Everyday Occupation". Pasted below are Carla's editorial in the Friday edition of the Washington Post admitting her mistake and Saree's from the Sunday edition reflecting on the episode.

Homeless and supporters march on City Hall for protest-and voter registration

Around noon on June 5, homeless people and supportersmarched from thew Father McKenna center off North Cap st to City Hall. Upon arrival, the picket and speeches were a backdrop to voter registration!

Politics and Prose Bookstore Cancels Palestinian Author's Book talk

There's nothing controversial about having everyone from Howard Zinn to George Will come and do a talk about their book but when it comes to Palestine it's somehow different.
