History

After its "study group" years, the Club featured an annual program of art related lectures and art exhibitions of members' work. It also sponsored occasional exhibitions by artists outside of Sacramento.

Responding to community need, Kingsley instituted an invitational art exhibit that provided an opportunity for new artists to show their work to the general public. A number of artists such as Wayne Thiebaud received their first recognition in Kingsley's annual show.

The annual invitational show developed into what has become Kingsley's most visible activity, the biennial Crocker-Kingsley Exhibition. The show is now a juried competition that includes cash awards and is open to all California artists.

Organized in cooperation with the Crocker Art Museum, the Crocker-Kingsley is a forum for emerging art forms.  It also provides artists with an unparalleled opportunity for extensive exposure of their work in a prestigious museum setting.  The 74th show was presented at the Crocker in 2005.  However, the show will not be held in 2007, due to the Crocker Art Museum's expansion project. Please check our web site for information regarding future competitions when this project has been completed.
