About the Speakers

Lyon and Ingoglia have lectured at a variety of universities and academic events. Depending on the interests of the hosting organization, they are prepared to speak on a variety of subjects related to "i" the film.

Subjects include: the inspiration and difficulties of low budget / no budget documentary filmmaking in the real world, the recent political and economic history of Argentina as seen first hand, and horizontal social movements, networks, media and their interrelation - particularly in the global south.

Film classes might consider screening the corollary film by Chris Marker "The Grin Without a Cat" which in some way revolves around the same issues in much of the same parts of the world - but follows the rise and collapse of the left in the late 60's and 70's.

Lyon and Ingoglia will also be bringing a small library of related and somewhat rare independent documentaries from South America which are also available for screening as part of the lecture.

Finally there is much to say about the new wave of Decentralized approaches to film distribution. From the WalllMart film toet flicks- to Youtube and beyond. The Decentralized Screening approach of "i" insists on the building of real live audiences as part of this stratedgy. The implications are radical and counter many perviously held notions of what "decentralized" and "web-based" organization may look like.
