Gindy Puts Name in Lights
Charles Gindy, welcome to Hollywood...a land where dreams come true and stars are made. The 22-year-old American, who has been playing Magic for half his life, became Tinseltown’s latest break-out performer when he swept Jan Ruess in the Pro Tour-Hollywood finals.
Gindy, who said he has been dreaming of playing in a Top 8 ever since he started playing Magic, received a fortune cookie Saturday night saying “You’ll make a name for yourself.” Behind a stellar supporting cast of Garruk Wildspeaker, Chameleon Colossus, Imperious Perfect, and a host of Elves, Gindy overwhelmed Ruess’s Merfolk to take home the champion’s trophy and the $40,000 first prize.
The Pro Tour showcased the Standard format’s depth throughout the weekend, with Faeries showing up in big numbers on Day One. But the deck everyone expected to be a major force steadily fell by the wayside as a wide range of decks displayed their strengths and weaknesses en route to Sunday’s Top 8. Congratulations again to Charles Gindy, and thanks to everyone who made Pro Tour-Hollywood such a success.
