Palin: Global Warming Not Man-Made

Share

August 29, 2008 8:21 PM

ABC News’ Rick Klein Reports: Among the issues Sen. John McCain will have to smooth over with his new running mate: global warming.

In an interview for the September issue of the conservative magazine Newsmax, Gov. Sarah Palin, R-Alaska, said she does not believe climate change is caused by human behavior.

“A changing environment will affect Alaska more than any other state, because of our location. I'm not one though who would attribute it to being man-made,” Palin said in the interview, which was posted online Friday.

McCain, R-Ariz., by contrast, has broken with his party’s dogma by supporting a mandatory program to cap carbon emissions -- a point of pride for McCain as he burnishes his independent reputation.

Palin’s quote about global warming not being manmade is also at odds with the freshly approved GOP platform for 2008. That language -- adopted by the party this week -- marks the first time the Republican Party’s policy document addresses climate change.

"The same human activity that has brought freedom and opportunity to billions has also increased the amount of carbon in the atmosphere," the document reads. "Increased atmospheric carbon has a warming effect on the earth."

A McCain campaign spokeswoman, Maria Comella, disputed suggestions that Palin does not recognize the reality of global warming. As governor, she created a new “sub-cabinet” agency last September, to advise her office “on the preparation and implementation of an Alaska climate change strategy.”

She has also endorsed efforts to learn more about human impacts on climate change.

“Governor Palin not only stands with John McCain in his belief that global warming is a critical issue that must be addressed, but she has been a leader in addressing climate change,” Comella said.

Palin and McCain disagree on another key environmental issue: drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, in Palin’s home state of Alaska. Palin is for it, while McCain wants to keep the refuge off-limits.

"It's nonsense not to tap a safe domestic source of oil. I think Americans need to hold Congress accountable on this one," Palin told Newsmax about drilling in ANWR.

SARAH PALIN, WHO IS SHE?

Well folks hang on to your hats because the research is already coming in!!!!

Former Beauty Queen, just like Cindy McCain!

Former Sports Caster, who's dream was to work for ESPN.

Former PTA member and "hockey mom."

Former City counsel member (4 years) and small town Mayor (2 years)

Governor of the most backwards and least populous state in the nation for a whole 20 months. The Alaskan state government meets 90 days a year!

In 2006, get this... SHE WAS FOR THE BRIDGE TO NOWHERE!!! But today she said in her acceptance speech she was against it!

Against polar bears on the endangered species list...

Believes there is NO SUCH THING AS GLOBAL WARMING!!

Is firmly anti-abortion and want to repeal Roe v Wade!

And last but not least she called Hillary a "Whinner" during the primaries!!!!!!!

She now wants all the Hillary PUMA fans to support her and McBush!!

So how about it PUMA gals? Hillary is a WHINER right? Sarah Palin says so!!!

Stay tuned, the research is going 100 mph on Palin right now - certainly there will be a lot more details coming in the next few days!

Obama/Biden '08!!!!!!!

She also does not think evolution should be taught in schools. I wonder if McCain is about to ask for a muligan.

This VP choice is such an epic fail it's not even funny. Actually it is pretty funny.

Posted by: Jeremy | Aug 29, 2008 8:48:03 PM

MCACAIN HAS NO RESPECT FOR WOMEN. HE'S USING A WOMAN FOR HIS OWN POLITICAL GAIN.

I am so tired of the political reality in America.

Sarah Palin has absolutely no right to be anybody's VP. She has done nothing. She hasn't even been in office for a full-term, which isn't my main concern. We had an entire primary to get to know Obama and Clinton. We have 60 some days to get to know Palin.

She is a threat to America.

Hillary I miss you and love you... I am now voting for Obama. McCain is a jerk and has no respect for women.

10 years of global cooling. The data suggests she's right.

Posted by: biscuits | Aug 29, 2008 9:00:56 PM

McCain, I see through your antics.

I am a women and guess what you are, A JERK.

Women unite... tired of letting men use us.

Palin rocks!

Posted by: Cory | Aug 29, 2008 9:04:49 PM

The mis-statements and unforced errors on the part of the Obama acolytes are funny. Palin hasn't been in office for a full term? Guess what. Neither has Obama. Alaska as the least populous state? Well, not actually, at least in terms of population. More than DELAWARE, for example.

Sarah Palin is a reformer, took on the establishment in her own party and won, and has had nearly 10 years of executive experience. I'll take her over Obama, with ZERO executive experience, and Biden, also with ZERO executive experience (who has also apparently learned nothing in his 36 years of flailing about in Washington), any day.

Posted by: HT | Aug 29, 2008 9:06:31 PM

HILLARY SLEPT WITH THE PRESIDENT AND TOOK HIS ABUSE TO GET WHERE SHE IS!!!! Palin is a self made woman and did not need her hubby to boost her political cache.

Liberals are constantly in denial. You always have to create a reality that allows all your whacked out beliefs exist.

Posted by: Jay | Aug 29, 2008 9:06:51 PM

McCain/Pain----perfect. I say, drill for the oil. The government has no right to change the rules about which animals go on the endangered species list.

Stop abortion. It's murder.

True scientists know that global warming is a natural cycle of the earth. Global warming is just a fad that Hollywood has taken a liking to. Am I against helping the environment? No, just don't be idiots. Get educated.

Obama will raise taxes.

Obama will let illegal aliens run more rampant than they already are.

Obama and the ACLU will ruin this country.

GET EDUCATED!!!!

What? Another Vice Presidential choice (McCain's Palin) with ties to Big Oil (in Alaska)? As Obama mentioned in his DNC nomination acceptance speech, this just proves that the GOP does not get it: the World economies--starting with America--need to end the Oil Era and usher in the Clean Renewable Energy Era of locally obtained sources. the GOP is not Grand, but it is old, let's not invite the Republicans back to the "party" in Nov '08....

Posted by: 19341 | Aug 29, 2008 9:07:39 PM

OK, do American voters really think that a Presidential candidate who's grandfather, father, himself and his son have military background will end the Military Industrial Complex's policy of America in Endless War(s), and end the GHB/GWB Iraqi war(s) (that's McCain...)? Do voters really think that a Vice Presidential choice who's husband is in the Oil Industry and who's state citizens get governmental payouts from Oil revenues in Alaska will support the complete move to clean, renewal, homegrown energy sources such as Wind, Solar, Wave, Geothermal, Biomass, cellulosic ethanol and others (that's Palin...)? Well, I don't think McCain/Palin will. They will support the status quo. So, if you feel the country is doing well and should continue on as usual, they're your pair.

Posted by: netizen19380 | Aug 29, 2008 9:08:36 PM

Are the Republicans kidding me, with the nod to Sarah Palin as McCain's VP choice? If the GOP had qualms about the one-term Senator Obama from a well-populated State (IL) and one of the countries largest cities (Chicago area), then the RNC has got to be kidding about a one-term Governor Palin of a "remote" state (AK) from the continental U.S. with no large cities, relatively. This election is a sham, (I just lament the possibility that it could've been a Clinton/Biden ticket, alas...).

Posted by: Democrat | Aug 29, 2008 9:09:21 PM

Ok 19341, lets just all sit around and wait until a solar panel or windmill moves our cars around. It is not an either/or discussion you self righteous fool. You can be for oil and future technologies. Wow you people are so one dimensional

Out of everything I heard about Sarah Palin today, the most disturbing thing to me has to be her support of Pat Buchanan. As a Jew in Palm Beach, I must say that I am disgusted by her views. I like McCain and think he would be strongest on Israel, but supporting Pat Buchanan is a dealbreaker for me and many Jews.

Palin fought for teaching Creationism in schools and is going to have a problem with the Jewish vote.

Here's Rep. Robert Wexler of Florida:

John McCain's decision to select a vice presidential running mate that endorsed Pat Buchanan for President in 2000 is a direct affront to all Jewish Americans. Pat Buchanan is a Nazi sympathizer with a uniquely atrocious record on Israel, even going as far as to denounce bringing former Nazi soldiers to justice and praising Adolf Hilter for his "great courage."

At a time when standing up for Israel's right to self-defense has never been more critical, John McCain has failed his first test of leadership and judgment by selecting a running mate who has aligned herself with a leading anti-Israel voice in American politics. It is frightening that John McCain would select someone one heartbeat away from the presidency who supported a man who embodies vitriolic anti-Israel sentiments.

Mrs. Palin(tology) will set America back 30 years which is fine for the religious fright in this country.

Need I remind republicans that greed is a mortal sin and the GOP is the party of greed - some would say they are being misled by false prophets another warning of the bible.

Look at Palins record or lack of it. Look at her background or lack of it then laugh at it. Biden will wipe the floor with her during the debates. At least Obama is a educated and can speak like political greats. I can hardly wait for hockey mom to open her mouth and see the bias and hate slip from her tongue.

She does however excel at breeding, at least her legs seem to open correctly. I'm sure her rough hound husband is pleased.

See a picture of her in 1984 as a "true" queen of Alaska then try to see her talking tough to anyone. I know, she can bake brownies and invite them to a hockey game. That will show em. And I guess she's fisically a mess, caused her small town $$$ needlessly. Another tax and spend conservative, but with the world ending any day now, like why worry right? What is that series, the Left Behind crowd. I want someone to ask her if she thinks we're living in "end times" just to see here her response. Either way it will be a deal breaker for her.

This nomination is a joke and so are the republicans that support her.

One more thing, she's currently under investigation for being a royal douche in Alaska. I guess she uses influence to make her family problems go away. In pocket of big oil, hates bears, she'll help overturn Roe V Wade as she cares about the fetus and to hell with the child. Typical help myself, screw everyone else conservative.

And the issue of abortion is between the mother, her maker and her doctor. (the holy trinity) Not stupid conservatives that wish to push their lifestyle on the entire world.

Let's face it after eight years we've discovered that Republicans can't govern!

I am convinced the reason the Democrats are so angry at this Palin nomination is that they could not find an attractive candidate like Palin themselves, much less a smart one. They are suffering from "buyer's remorse' today {known as Barack Hussein) to late, to bad, so sad.

Well, lets fight some Obama smears:
Scandal? The trooper was using a taser on her sister's son, people. He threatened her father with a gun!
Creationism?
If you Kossacks ever bother to read the full quote, she says she's against creationism being taught in schools, but is ok with a teacher discussing it, which you "diversity" groupthinkers are against, of course.
Well, as far as abortion goes, your candidate is ok with babies being left to die who survive abortions, which is left of the entire US Senate, and left of everyone else regardless of party in the Il. Senate. Even Barbara Boxer commented after the vote that she supports taking care of live babies for God's sake.
Perhaps, you should tend to your own candidate's problems, and continue prepping yourselves for when middle America finds out about William Ayers, and your Hindenburgh moment begins....

And how many unwanted children has Palin adopted? How many have you? If you're against abortion, you must adopt and support for life!!!

From what I'm learning in a few short hours, Palin is definitely not the sharpest tool in the shed. And John McCain thinks he can pander to women. How disrespectful!

Posted by: Tim | Aug 29, 2008 10:34:49 PM

Okay. Let’s never throw the “Obama isn’t experienced” card out there again. She became governor in 2006… She answered a question on the rumors of her becoming VP with the answer “What does a VP do?” Just a month ago… She is being investigated right now… Go do some searches. You’ll see she flip-flopped on why she fired the guy. First she said it was because she wanted him in a new job to focus on alcohol abuse in Alaska. And then, less than a month later, she said she fired him because she didn’t believe that he could control alcohol abuse in Alaska. She has been in charge of a state with more reindeer than people. There is a big different in pushing the button to switch on the lights in a god-forsaken town in Alaska and having your finger on the red flashing button. What happens, God forbid, if something happens to McCain (if he becomes President) and she becomes President. The sad thing is that there are many more competent women he could have chosen from. But he took this decision because he will do everything to become President. He did it because it is good for him. Not what is good for this country. It is a sexist decision trying to play “women” to get their vote. Shame on McCain.

So ... John McCain hopes to attract women in 2008 by nominating a woman from the 1950s? And the thought that the beauty queen from nowhere would be one McCain cancer scare away from the button, to quote a Republican Senator about McCain, "sends cold shivers down my spine."

It was fun to hear the winger talk radio hosts shilling for the ticket today. Question: do they fax those talking points to Rush/Beck/Hannity and company or email them?

Posted by: ReidBlog | Aug 29, 2008 10:41:11 PM

--MCCAIN IS SO FLAWED---How much did you make being a Obama blogger tonight posting false and stupid reports? I just talked to my contacts in Alaska this afternoon and tonight and there is a lot more to the "trooper" story and he should be fired and then in jail. OK Palin was following proceedures.
And yes, she is more qualified to serve than Obama. Obama received a $300,000 gift from a criminal as a pay-off. He is still under investigation. And with Bill Ayers, there was a proceedure problem made by the police which prevented prosecution. He was guilty but could not be tried but his wife was sent to jail on same offense.

Posted by: Mary | Aug 29, 2008 10:44:25 PM

Ayers... now let's see. One candidate associated with this radical liberal thiker some years ago, at a time when the whole country was ripe for radical liberal thinking. The other candidate associates in the present with two gentlemen who are guilty of treason against the USA for lying to Americans to start a war, and for the death of thousands of American troops. Last I checked, treason was a worse crime than liberal thinking.

Posted by: clifton | Aug 29, 2008 10:45:37 PM

HA HA HA..MCCain's Obama ads have come back to haunt him: She is a Brittany and Paris type madam beauty queen and vogue magazine model celebrity; she is inexperienced; she is as odd a choice as the "one"; she is acquainted with a corrupt official who endorsed her and involved in a scandal bigger than mere acquaintance and not an imaginary one - a matter of abuse of office and employment discrimination. Great choice.

Posted by: sarah | Aug 29, 2008 10:46:10 PM

The more I learn about Governor Palin, the more I like her! She's just what McCain needs. People try to wage the argument that the "experience" card with Obama needs to be pitched. But, that's deceiving, of course. It is Obama vs. McCain. Not Obama vs. Palin. But, if you want to make the comparison between Obama and Palin, go for it. She's got more leadership experience (known as accomplishments) than Obama has. Enough said. Game, set, match!

Is some moron still trying to associate Ayers(who was convicted of nothing) to Obama and insinuate it means something?

Obama was 8 when the Weather Underground was relevant - and Ayers was a protester only. You most likely never even heard of Ayers until this election and you obviously are still clueless.

My God, you have nothing to go on but false accusations. Get a REAL canidate next time. And how about a REAL VP choice as well? Palin was the best the GOP has to offer?

Mr Honorable POW - I left my ailing wife for a young, rich, trustfund princess, I graduated in the bottom 1% of my class, and I know nothing about economics should NEVER get close to the White House.

No company would ever hire McCain as a CEO. He certainly does NOT have the brains to lead the most powerful and complex nation in the world. I'll take the Harvard graduate over the slacker.

And POW does not make a "hero". It certainly doesn't imply a knowledge of strategic thought. It means that after scraping through remedial flight school (that he only got into because of his admiral father) he got shot down immediately and captured. That's it!

Why is McCain pandering to Hillary and Lieberman supporters? He's supposed to be a Republican, right? Palin talked about what women expect from women leaders; how she took charge in Alaska during a political scandal that threatened to unseat the state's entire Republican power structure, and her feelings about Sen. Hillary Clinton. (She said she felt kind of bad she couldn't support a woman, but she didn't like Clinton's "whining.")

Sen. Phil Gramm, has exposed the nasty conservative id on this subject. In an interview with the Washington Times, Gramm opined that America's economy is only suffering from a delusional "mental recession" of unconfidence, created by a "nation of whiners" who don't know how well they've got it.

McCain's campaign was quick to distance itself from Gramm's remark. But it's telling, coming from one of McCain's oldest and closest political friends.

Of Course Obamma emits hate. He has his youth and bloggers and followers hating anyone he says.

If someone is not a worship follower of him, they mark them as the enemy and evil and attack, attack and attack some more.

It is amazing how many people he has doing his dirty work.

How does he get them to be such obedient to be so hateful, mean and evil for him? Does he pay them or is did he instill it in their minds.

*Shrugs*

Obama's slogan should be

"Evil for Obama"

And she's the VP pick??? Say it ain't so. Not only is this an insult to Hillary's former supporters, it's an even bigger insult to all the qualified Republican men and women who got passed over. Sure, Dems are worried. LOL

I'm amazed and disgusted by the anti-Obama comments on this board. Not because some of you aren't supporting Obama- that's your right, of course. But because your reasons are so stupid, so irrational, so obnoxious, so selfish, and more often than not, based on COMPLETE FICTION.

You people are pathetic. I hope you enjoy the coming Obama administration- I know I will.

Posted by: mike kaplan | Aug 30, 2008 12:14:26 AM

It's hilarious when bloggers- male, no doubt- think they can speak for women voters. "Thoughtful women won't be hoodwinked by this obvious ruse"

How is this a ruse? There are automatic implications that this choice was made simply because of her gender, that a woman cannot be picked because she's talented and would make a great VP. That in itself is SEXIST. To group women in one big heap is SEXIST. There is sexism all over this sewer of a blog. The Obama followers who do this are ignorant and hateful.

Sexism is no better than racism.

McCain chose Palin only because she's a woman, hoping it'll win over the Hillary voters. And you can take that to the bank.

Posted by: samurai | Aug 30, 2008 12:27:59 AM

This choice makes me reflect more deeply about how McCain's career as a fighter pilot, it seems it is more revealing that we first thought - apparently he flies by the seat of his pants.

Remember the most revealing event in that career - he was shot down.

According to all accounts McCain only met Gov. Palin one time before choosing her to be his VP nominee. He's made the decision about the person who will be one heart beat away from Commander-in-Chief by flipping a coin.

The issue isn't Palin's experience or lack thereof, the issue is what this choice tells us about McCain's process of decision making process - his JUDGEMENT - or lack thereof! What I see scares me. God Save this Country from such Recklessness!

McCain picked a woman as his running mate and he's insulting Hillary supporters? So I gather he was to eliminate half of the population of this country as a potential running mate so he wouldn't. Hillaryites are fine people I'm sure, but sometime it may occur to them that the ultimate insult was that the Democratic party didn't want her and that she won't be on the ballot. Oh but we should elect Obama who has less experience.

In other words, we get experience from day one with McCain, but we have to wait for Obama to die before we get the guy who knows what he's doing.

Apparently Sarah Palin is intelligent, a quick learner, articulate, holds to her values while being open minded and most importantly she isn't a typical career bench warming money wasting politician with a dozen skeletons in the closet. She could potentially do good things for this country but she happens to be young,(compared to the average political corpse), non-African American and a woman. Can't have any of

If Maccain is a bit intelligent which is impossible though, he should have picked real wild choice... anyhow, real conservative will not vote for Obama, so he should appeal to independent and moderate democrat, and this Palin is strong conservative, that make these swing voters (including democrat women) push away.

Zen, Sarah is the real deal. She actually is out there doing real "change" while Obama only talks about it.

I'll take action over hot air (obama) any day. So will most Americans.

Nice try though.

Posted by: Jo | Aug 30, 2008 1:50:45 AM

When Obamabots start to claim that how could McCain pick a woman with no experience when he has made that a central issue in his attacks against Obama....

Ask the Obamabots how he could pick a 30 plus year Washington insider after "change" has been the central focus of his campaign.

Trust me, they'll have no coherent explanation.

Here we go...

The Bombastic Obama has bombed in his choice for Vice President (not the first time he has bombed...Michelle, for example).

Now, rather than admit his mistake, the Bombastic Obama and his Axelrod Court Jester try to find fault with the McCain selection.

The Hillary Clinton supporters don't buy the diatribe of the Bombastic Obama and renew their pledge to support any Obama opponent.

The Bombastic Obama searches for a job with the Rezko money machine or the Wright worship machine.

American voters reel in disgust and the tactics of the Bombastic Obama and his sidekick, Joe Don't Know...

Posted by: Jayhawk | Aug 30, 2008 1:56:09 AM

Women voters of America...

Obama rejected a woman VP that could have united his party and won the election.

McCain selected a woman VP that will unite his party and win the election.

Any questions?

The First Test of Judgment for a Presidential Candidate

It has been said that the most important first decision a Presidential candidate makes is choosing their Vice Presidential running mate.
Barack Obama said his criteria was someone who is qualified to be President and someone who can help him govern. He chose someone with the experience to lead if needed, and someone who will provide frank consultation.

John McCain picked an admirable young Governor with no national security credentials even though he has been saying that Barack Obama does not have enough national security experience. This is another example ofJohn McCain’s inconsistency in his own judgment.

His choice gives the impression that his choice for a running mate had more to do with winning an election and less to do with finding a qualified running mate. Yet, this is not possible from someone who puts his country above party and winning an election.

So, it appears that Barack Obama has passed this first test of judgment and John McCain has not.

Regardless, John McCain’s choice of running mate does not change his 90% voting record with a failed administration. As President, he will still choose policies that 80% of Americans think are taking us in the wrong direction.

Voters should consider this now and in November.

You gotta be kidding me. She doesn't believe Global Warming is manmade? Can you imagine another four years of a President that is in the pocket of big oil like this unknown shill for Shell?

This is beyond scary, its suicidal. Letting this woman into the White House is tantamount to genecide.

Just like Hillary Clinton is a woman?

Did I mention that Hillary Clinton and Sarah Palin are both women?

And, excellent choices for VP...

Too bad Obama and Obiden are sexist...

Did I mention Hillary and Sarah are women?

Palin is not convinced that "climate change" is human caused. Since climate change has happened since the planet was formed, I don't have a problem with skeptiism.

Obama blew his chance for being President, fortunately, by not picking Hillary as his VP.

As for Obama's intelligence, I see that he had a Ivy League education, can anyone give me his bar number? I can't even find, using Google, that he or his Ivy League wife passed the bar.

McCain and his republican team are apparently still buying into that we the people are still willingly remaining ignorant to reality of what is going on around them. The fact that some still are willingly to remain ignorant (AKA McCain supporters) are really not just ignorant but more some have chosen to be arrogant. When one is so stuck on the basis of an ideology of religious values, then to try and impose those values and beliefs on others this is the makings for disaster and in doing so by in way of deception and fear tactics to achieve their agenda. Well eventually one wakes up to the abuses of what this ideology of religious and fascist cult Republican Party is all about. I have a rather good sense of knowing who is lying and who is not by facial expressions and I tell you with certainty McCain is a liar of unprecedented magnitude. However anyone reading this doesn’t need to have the same foresight. All one has to do is lookup McCain’s voting record as how much he has flip-flopped. And also lookup at all of the scandals and laws they broke this republican administration has done the past 8 years. I ask you how many times a person needs to be lied to before you realize they are a liar and being as such they can’t be trusted by anything they say or do. In some ways I feel sorry for McCain supporters if those are truly lost but then again self chosen ignorance is not an excuse. And self chosen arrogance is not worthy of any kind compassion at all when our very way of life and American values/rights are at stake and further being taken from us by such. Not to mention our very survival on this earth in regards to global warming.

The DNC Convention was jammed packed. The GOP Convention; they had trouble and had to bus people outside the state to try and fill their seats. More people watched the DNC Convention then The Olympics and Star Search. And then lets not count how many hits they had on the internet. The GOP is dead. Yet the invasion of the body snatchers AKA Republicans don’t know any better. I have to believe it is really not their fault to realities of the world around them. They are brainwashed by this religious cult.

Posted by: doug | Aug 30, 2008 2:35:03 AM

So she thinks man does not contribute significantly to global warming? Wow, I guess she must be correct and all the scientists who devote their lives to research must be wrong.

If nothing else, compared to her, McCain seems like a genius.

Posted by: DennisNC | Aug 30, 2008 2:40:27 AM

We don't need people as ignorant as Palin in office. The last eight years have been marked by a denial of science and reason, and Palin epitomizes this. A person who thinks mysticism (creationism) should be taught in our schools and that global warming is a hoax should not even be allowed near office.

Posted by: In denial | Aug 30, 2008 2:51:53 AM

Would you provide in your will that if something happened to you your children should go to and be raised by someone you only met once? Of course not!! How can John McCain be so reckless as to do that with all of us and all of our children? --- He passed over very well qualified people, both male and female, to select someone who herself thought the idea of her being considered was a joke. I've never heard of anything so reckless in my entire life. Is he a maverick .... or just losing it? --- And what an insult to women!!! Just because she is a woman, we're supposed to vote for someone who is anti-choice (even in cases of rape or incest), opposes all sex education, wants creationism taught in schools, doesn't believe in scientific evidence of climate change?? That's like saying that having Clarence Thomas on the Sup. Ct. is a good think and fine advancement for African-Americans! We are NOT that dumb! At least I pray we are not.

Posted by: Elizabeth | Aug 30, 2008 2:53:54 AM

How is Clarence Thomas not a fine advancement? Let me guess, because he doesn't by into Black Liberation Theology he's not "really black"?

Posted by: Barakulus at the Barakopolis | Aug 30, 2008 2:59:17 AM

Thomas- I am curious about your ability to detect lies from facial expressions. Could you tell Al Gore was knowingly lying about the sea level rise in his movie? What about Bill Clinton when he said he didn't have sex with his aide. Hillary - with over two hundred "I don't recall" statements during the Whitewater investigation? More recently Nancy Pelosi, a self proclaimed devout Catholic who contrary to the religion supports abortion and said she doesn't
know what the Catholic directives are?
John Edwards and his fling, Obama and his minister?
How about you and the buses going to the GOP convention, which has yet to be
held. And actually more people watched the 2004 Dem. Convention than in 2008.
If the GOP is dead the DNC must be buried and if the GOP can be described as religious fascists then would it be fair to call the DNC Marxist communists?

I can certainly see that you do not detect lies from facial expressions. Otherwise, how could you ever believe in a lier like Bush and Cheynee?

And many religious people think that government and religion should be separate, like the Constitution commands.

Do you believe in the Constitution?

Posted by: voter | Aug 30, 2008 3:19:17 AM

McCain has serious judgement issues. His choice is a sexist play to get Hillary voters and to think we don't see through that speaks to just how delusional he is, so clearly out of touch.

What is Palin's educational backgroud? Does she really think global warming is not man-made? She supported Pat Buchanan....really??!! She's pro-life, not pro-women's right to make up their own minds?? Pro creationism? - keep that in your church, don't shove it down the throat of my children's public school education, which my tax dollars pay for!

I used to be a Republican but as I get older realize that acceptance for all walks of life and prosperity for all will surely NEVER happen by continuing to elect Republican leaders.

Excuse me while I log onto barackobama.com and make a donation.

Edgar.....that is your best? ...LOL!!! I can’t resist this one! Well; your attacks lack so much substance they are almost nonexistent that it is sad and pathetic. However in your meaningless effort in you attempt to discredit my post like a good little Evangelical Repuke I am going to entertain this one for you before I go to bed.

Al Gore about the sea level rise.

Do I really need to explain this? Well let’s see; the melting of ice; a liquid that is solidified (that means become hard or a solid such as ICE) by cooling of temperatures. When warmed resulting the solidification of frozen water to them becomes liquidized (that means solid returns to the liquid state of WATER). Again and try and keep up here; ICE is a solid and WATER is a liquid. All of which is matter! Do I need to explain what matter is and how it takes up space? This is the result (of course) water to rise. AKA - sea level to rise. Let me make dumb this down a bit further for you. Fill a glass to the rim with ice and water and let it sit until the ice melts and see what happens. Should I explain to you that 2+2=4 now? Or in your bible is it written that it really doesn’t equal 4 and God tolled you that it is only a mental mathematical equation that don’t exist. I suppose you think that once ice melts that the matter (of which that it is) just remarkably disappears and becomes nonexistent... similar to your poor attempt in you post directed to me. Or maybe the matter dies and goes to heaven... right...LOL.

Now I have to get some sleep and at the moment and don’t have the time to entertain you other meaningless questions.

By the way; sorry about the typo in my other post.

a lot of you guys are too young to remember when bush chose dan quayle as his running mate. he was an unknown and just looked DUMB -- which he was. Bush used him to shore up conservatives and thought that he would appeal to suburban women as well. the media mocked him to death. BUT THEY WON!

And they had a good shot of winning against bill clinton - but ross perot ran. the race was close - even though quayle had tons of embarassing moments during the first term. the funniest occurring during his visit to a grade school classroom, where a little kid spelled "potato" for his teacher, and quayle said "you forgot the 'e' -- it's 'potatoe.'" what a JOKE.

she seems like a lightweight to me, but bush II, quayle and so many others are lightweights.

Time and time again I see people that spew crap, hate and flat out lies pulled out of their ass in an effort to discredit the other instead of coming in here with factual statements and debatable issues. This kind of mentality is pathetic! Who the hell cares of something that is so petty if someone got a blow job or did not, smoked pot or did not, or for that fact if someone had posed for in playboy or did not. It is all meaningless and pointless in the light of much more important issues such as torture, freedoms, the rule of law and how not to over step our rights and freedoms of religions extremists. You people that come in here and fill up space with such crap instead of debating real issues. I say this to everyone of whatever party you belong too; get a brain and a life. This kind of mentality is not needed. And certainly should have no room in the political process. You people that make these meaningless allegations, true or not they are as shallow as the statement you make and say volumes about your mentality...grow up!

I am most certainly not a republican and the people as like such mentality only represent them self’s and not of me. I see a lot of hate that come form republican side more often then I see it from the other but obviously it does happen.

According to Karl Rove Palin is not qualified to be president.

"with all due respect to the governor...only been a governor for less than three years...I don't think people could name a big important thing that (s)he's done...was mayor of a relatively small city..."

Karl Rove on Face The Nation commenting on the qualifications of possible v.p candidate Tim Kaine.

So if the same standards apply then Palin who does not even meet the same qualifications or experience that Kaine has is not up to the job.

Sorry but this time Karl got it right. Check out the video on cbs.com 8/10/08

Hello Indy, how are you these days?

Well Indy as for individual rights is exactly that... “individual”... rights. I am going to make this as clear as I can. I am not for abortion myself but I am a man and I am myself. I will not impose my values and beliefs onto others as like what the rightwing Christians do. And then yet they are for the death penalty. According to Christians religion God gave us all freewill. And thou shall not judge. However the rightwing extremists want to take freewill and to Judge those that want it. All this under a party that lies, tortures, violates our rights and breaks the law. Not to mention an unprovoked and illegal war and the killing of thousands in it. They are anything but Christians and indeed hypocrites to their on religion.

How many children and babies died in this illegal war??? But that is ok... right? I think not!

Posted by: Thomas | Aug 30, 2008 9:02:44 AM

Norman

hate to say it but this woman doesn't even keep her skeletons in her closet...

she's coocoo.

She puts her "faith" so far over science it is laughable.

It should be illegal for a woman to get an abortion the day after she got pregnant if the pregnancy would kill her?

go look at where this woman stands on soooo many issues

aside from all of what she does not know...

look art where we are in the world...all the issues we face oversees and John McCain's judgment is to appoint this woman to protect us and decide on international affairs if he, a 72 year old 2 time cancer survivor doesn't finish his term.

she does not believe in science for chrissake.

give me a break

this is the scariest thing I have EVER seen a Presidential candidate do.

Posted by: dl | Aug 30, 2008 9:05:30 AM

A great pick for America!! Palin has brains and is not a Washington INSUDER like Biden. She represents true change. Anyone who wants to talk experience, including Karl Rove, Obama has spent 140 days actually working in the Senate and the rest on the campaign trail. Palin has invested 18 months or so as governor - but it's a 24/7 EXECUTIVE job making decisions that immediately affect the people of the state. HUGE difference!!

Posted by: R | Aug 30, 2008 9:06:08 AM

Yes 'The Truth Hurts'. Sarah is a respectable governer. Nobama, on the otherhand was a rabble-rouser in the streets of chicago with his buddy Bill Ayers. Then he became a hack "only vote present" senator. So lets see, Executive experience VS thug. Sarah wins.

It's not too comforting to see this Dan Quayle rerun so close to becoming president if whatever the hell is growing out of the side of McCains face finally does him in.

Posted by: Marcus W. | Aug 30, 2008 9:16:10 AM

Wow, thomas, you sure went from blow jobs to abortion in some sort of mind-melding transformation.

The one other thing of note, you decry the death of children and babies due to this "illegal" war, but I'm guessing you advocate the right of a woman to kill human life as long as hasn't seen the sun's light. Correct? Would you like for me to provide you the numbers or do you realize how many infanticides occur on your own? There's your "illegal" war raised to the 23rd power right there. Carry on.

Posted by: Indy | Aug 30, 2008 9:17:46 AM

I'm a Hillary supporter. It's great to see that McCain respects women unlike Nobama and the hierarchy at the DNC.

I am so proud that a woman has a chance to be the Vice President of the U.S.

Already the Nobama thugs are attacking a woman mercilessly ...just like they attack Hillary.

Go McCain - Palin -- my money and my campaign time are yours.

Who the hell do these republicans think they are to impose their religious values down the throats of others? I am a Christian but they can take their twist of Christianity and keep to them self. This is a nation of many religions not just one. No respect for freedom of religion and or of choice. And no respect on many other issues either.

Sorry Indy but it is not for you or anyone else to say what maybe right or wrong for someone else because it is right or wrong for you. You are not God!

Posted by: Thomas | Aug 30, 2008 9:26:27 AM

Other than radical Muslims, I don't think you'll find that knowingly and willing killing babies is some sort of religious dichotomy, thomas. Your mileage may vary.

Posted by: Indy | Aug 30, 2008 9:29:18 AM

Hey 'dl', science is not a belief system. It is the knowlege attained through study, research, or practice. Often that knowlege is in error or blatantly misleading - like the global warming debacle and darwinism for example - so you cannot put your faith in science, but you can learn from science to understand its failings and successes.

Everything that Hillary is for, Palin stands against. Palin IS the glass ceiling.

McCain wasted his pick and his shot at the presidency.

Posted by: Positions Matter | Aug 30, 2008 9:34:25 AM

Posted by: Don | Aug 30, 2008 9:37:56 AM

McCain's choice of Sarah Palin is the most obscene pandering to women imaginable. Does he think we are stupid......well, yes....it would appear he does. Ladies if you want your hard fought for rights taken from you...vote the McCain/Palin ticket...but don't moan about it later...you have a choice - choose wisely. McCain has proven that his ability to think rationally doesn't exist...at 72 there is a possibility that he won't serve four year......do you want Miss Alaska Beauty queen running the country????? Vote Obama/Biden.

Posted by: Jessie | Aug 30, 2008 9:42:26 AM

tony | Aug 30, 2008 6:52:36 AM

Uh Tony, you said you'd rather be a beauty queen than a pothead (referring to Obama). Try again. Sarah Palin has admitted to using pot too. If you're going to try to make issues out of minutiae, at least do your homework. I'm starting to see how Bush got into office. Not only was he a bad student but apparently other Repubs are too lazy to apply themselves. McCain graduated near the bottom of a class of 900 and now apparently was too slovenly to even do the groundwork to make a smart VP pick. He met her once?! WoW.

Posted by: KP | Aug 30, 2008 9:45:44 AM

It's easy to see that Palin is really causing the nutjob dems to blow a gasket. There has been absolutely ZERO substance to any of the criticism posted.

Good job, JM!

Posted by: Stan | Aug 30, 2008 9:49:18 AM

Before you vote educate yourself. Understand where your candidates ideas and beliefs come from. Read Saul Alinsky's Rules for Radicals, read the communist manifesto. Listen again to the recorded speaches from the Denver hate america convention. You will then have sudden intuitive realization that you have been fooled by the extreme left. Don't be a drone, leave that darkside, be free.

Muslims have a right to be Muslims. How does rightwing Evangelicals differ with radical Muslims? Both try to impose their beliefs on others. Oh...for the Evangelicals to do so is ok but not other religions as their beliefs don’t fit with their own. May be a difference but yet also one of the same!

I respect your religious beliefs...but I don’t share your beliefs as they are not of my own. So don’t even try to force your beliefs on me at all. And especially by in way of violating my constitutional rights as an American and my God given rights has a person in an attempt to do so because you and anyone will fail. And every single person should feel the same way for them selves regardless of gender race and color. We all breathe the same air. Drink the same water and bleed the same color blood. We are all humans on the same planet.

Posted by: Thomas | Aug 30, 2008 9:54:15 AM

When asked whether censorship of library books was ok, Palin replied that that was a rhetorical question and wouldn't elaborate. To all you PUMAs out there, if it is that important to you to have a woman in or near the White House because she has the correct body parts, I guess the McCain/Palin ticket is for you. I hope you realize that the freedoms this country has fought and died for will be history. If you're trying to "get back at" the democratic party for your perceived dissing of Hillary Clinton, all you are really doing is setting us back so far we'll never be able to dig ourselves out. As a Jew, and knowing Palin supported Pat Buchanan in his run for the presidency, I shudder at the thought of having Palin a stone's throw away from the White House. As a supporter of a woman's right to choose, this ticket is disaster. Oh well, it's your funeral and you are digging your own graves.

This proves to me that Palin is intelligent and reasoned and not swayed by political dogma and environmental hysteria. Man-made global warming is the biggest hoax of our lifetime. Thousands of scientists back her up. The interesting thing is that many climate scientists are now saying we’re several years into a global COOLING period. A lot of people are going to look mighty stupid as the data continues to roll in.

By saying that Palin is the most qualified of GOP women, it means we have been had in our respect for the likes of Kay Bailey Hutchingson and Ms. Rice!

And isn't McCain making such a choice after knowing Palin for only one day in a league with Bush's anointing Putin as a savior "after looking into his eyes/soul". Is this more government by clairvoyance at work? Will reason and science take even more of a back seat?

Posted by: Richard | Aug 30, 2008 10:56:49 AM

What an insult to women, McCain thinks that just because he picked a female all Hillary voters will vote for Palin. I no longer think of McCain as a maverick, I now think of him as just another Bush-whacker with the same old poor judgement. Be afraid, be very afraid, this person could become president of this great country!!

Posted by: LANNY EDWARDS | Aug 30, 2008 11:10:28 AM

It's a darn shame that Palin is female, ain't it? Obamites are such shallow life forms.

Posted by: SockEye | Aug 30, 2008 11:18:13 AM

I see the panic from the Dems. Why are they so quickly jumping on Palin's "no-experience" and claiming Obama has more experience? Hello? Palin is not running for president. She was selected a a running mate. So compare Obama with McCain, and call Obama no experience like it is. Why can the Dems do that?

I will give a Governor more credit for "governing" than a senator. You can be a senator for 40 years but no substantial management hands on experience.

It is laughable the Obamabots are ignoring the historical momentum of the nomination of Palin, and immediately started attacking her. Not until Senator Clinton congratulated Palin, the Obama team realized they should have too, and then did. Pathetic! The 3 am call better not be answered by Obama, who does not make the right decision thinking on his foot.

I think you met to type

McCain/PALIN

THE TICKET NOW "SUCKS"!

IT ROCKS IF YOU WANT ARMAGEDDON MAYBE...

the woman ignores science...

when asked about Iraq...she said, "haven't really been following it"

literally.

c'mon people this is the world historically worst pick (no exaggeration) for a leader we have ever seen...

she knows nothing about the middle east conflicts...and doesn't seem to care enough to have "followed it"

Does she know what is going on in Georgia...

is she being taught as we speak?!!!

this is absolutely...positively the worst choice ANYONE could have made

and Mccain cares sooo much about who would take care of America if something happened to him...that he has spent all of 2 times meeting her!!!

This was a shallow sad judgment to play games...

and you can call it nothing else.

a trojan horse for women.

since she is a hero of anti-women's rights issues (it should be illegal if a woman gets pregnant and her life may be at risk and she has an abortion?!!! r u kidding?!!!)

sad very very sad

Posted by: Chuck | Aug 30, 2008 11:57:31 AM

dl,

We sense fear and desperation from your attacking a woman whose opinion that global warming is a hoax is backed by hundreds of scientists. If you don't have enough education in environment science, or at physics, you shouldn't be such an expert as you tried to pass yourself to be. You are simply pathetic. If Palin is such a lousy pick, you should celebrate, yet you cried ove and over that this is "sad very very sad". Hmmm...do you realize how deperate you sound to all of us?

Posted by: Jen | Aug 30, 2008 12:04:11 PM

I am tired of abortion being front and center in every presidential election. This is just a trick that will not work this time. I am a life long democrat who has never supported abortion. However, I have never felt thatI should vote for a president based on that fact. (If you don't believe in abortion, don't have one). It will remain legal regardless of who takes office. That was an issue in 2000 as well as 2004. The republicans knows they can make fools of us by bringing this up in every election. Get this, God will take care of all of these abortions for he said, "In the last days, all unborned babies will cry out." Abortions will be until the end of time. They were here before Roe V Wade and will be after.

We need a president that will work for us. In my research, watching the news, and debates, Obama/Biden is the best ticket for all of us who are making less that $250,000 per year.

Posted by: Money | Aug 30, 2008 12:05:47 PM

I don't think Palin does not care about the global warming, SHE JUST DOES NOT GET IT. That speaks why McCain picks her. Since this election is so important for the future of America, it leaves me no choice but vote for the Dem.

Yes, Palin IS running for President. That is the point. The ONLY important criterion for a Vice-President is "ready to be President." That's what they are FOR.

Posted by: jock59801 | Aug 30, 2008 12:43:11 PM

It's not just global warming. She is anti-science. She thinks creationism should be taught in science classes! We don't need that after the most anti-science administrationin our history.

Posted by: jock59801 | Aug 30, 2008 12:45:04 PM

Chuck...If you spend less time LOL and think seriously, you may understand how import this election is. You may have more than 1 kitchen table, but not anyone does.

Posted by: A GOP | Aug 30, 2008 12:54:14 PM

A GOP... I have just the one kitchen table. (That kitchen table argument is so lame) What I am laughing so much about is... #1. how scared some people are of Palin. the Dems have nominated someone with less executive experience to not be "one heartbeat away".. but to be IN the oval office. They all see how empty Obama is compared to this "Hockey Mom"... It truly does crack me up. #2. how so many people can so easily be fooled in to thinking humans and what they do can have more effect on our climate than the Sun. I fly all over the country in my job... I look out the window. At 35,000 ft. the most "human activity" that is visible is agriculture. Here's a relatively small example of why I don't believe Al Gore. Try flying from Toledo to St. Louis. Look out the window... 95% (maybe more) of what you see is the result of agricultural activity. It's a little over 400 miles between the 2 cities... at 35,000 feet you can see for about 100 miles (maybe more) in each direction... so, that's at least 80,000 square miles of nothing but corn and soybeans (pretty much) and ALL of it is irrigated ... they can only grow all that corn and soy beans by fertilizing and spraying water into the atmosphere. What happens when you spray water into the air? Right... it cools the air and it increases the humidity. Look at satellite photos from all over the world. This agricultural activity... with irrigation, is happening ALL AROUND the world on a MASSIVE SCALE. If, we as humans, were responsible for ANY change in the Earth's Climate... it would be due to agriculture and irrigation. It is the ONLY thing we are doing on a large enough scale to affect climate. Nothing else we as humans do comes even close to this scale. Nothing!!!! Apparently, all this activity (agriculture/irrigation) is not having ANY effect. You have really got to understand how SMALL we all are and how little we actually have control over. Attempting to stop climate change is as crazy as attempting to STOP PLATE TECTONICS. Instead of all that "serious thinking"... maybe you should try some "critical thinking". What you really need to be concerned with is what happens when a city like Phoenix or Las Vegas... or even Atlanta, like almost happened last year, RUNS OUT OF WATER.

Posted by: Chuck | Aug 30, 2008 1:48:31 PM

Chuck

Agriculture does have a major impact around the world, but not through humidity. Rather through habitat destruction and a negative carbon balance.

Saying that it doesn't SEEM to you like we could have a critical impact is not "critical thinking." Physics says otherwise.

Posted by: jock59801 | Aug 30, 2008 1:59:34 PM

Jock... I agree.. "Agriculture does have a major impact around the world, but not through humidity. Rather through habitat destruction ....." What do you propose we do about that? Stop growing food?

Posted by: Jeff | Aug 30, 2008 2:47:56 PM

Jo, you can make up all the facts you want to but it doesn't change the truth or reality.

Most people believe global warming has a man-made component to it. Even your own party is recognizing that. Try wrapping your mind around that.

Obama has less experience than Palin? Obama was a state senator representing a district that has as many people as the WHOLE STATE of Alaska when Palin was a part-time mayor of a town of 7000.

Try facing reality sometime, it's refreshing and may just open up your mind.

Posted by: Jeff | Aug 30, 2008 2:59:31 PM

Chuck...
I assume you, too, have read the scientific studies about global warming from both sides and choose your point of view. But McCain, like me, believes the human behavior contributes to the global warming.
From the article above -
"McCain, R-Ariz., by contrast, has broken with his party’s dogma by supporting a mandatory program to cap carbon emissions -- a point of pride for McCain as he burnishes his independent reputation."
I like McCain, but not MaCain/Palin ticket.

I voted for Bush in 2000 and 2004 and had waited to see Bush deliver his promises, but nothing happened. So, I decide to be informed and be educated by myself, not through the medium. This time, I want to vote for the country, not for the party.

BTW, "kitchen table" is a metaphor. From what you do, it does not seem you would struggle in paying bills.

Posted by: A GOP | Aug 30, 2008 3:13:24 PM

If Palin isn't qualified for the VP position, then how is Obama "qualified" to run for the highest office in the land. He's never been Mayor of any city or town, never been Govonor of any city of town. He's spent most of his less than 2 years in the Senate trying to run for President. Why is he qualified? Being a motivational speaker isn't enough in these troubled times.

Sarah Palin has no foreign relation experience. Ok, then how does she happen to govern a state that borders both Canada and Alaska, and also get a natural gas pipline running from Alaska to the lower 48 through a foreign Country (Canada).

Oh, wait. That's right. Most Americans don't believe Canada is a country. Ooops. My mistake.

Sarah Palin's opinion on global warming is no more than a laywoman's nonprofessional opinion. She is not a qualified college educated expert in this area, nor is she is well known among world leaders in this expertise to be respected as a world expert on this. This college educated medical professional female does not respect Palin's stance. I thought she was claimed to be a knowledgeable "straight shooter." She is not the telling the truth and she is not an expert!!! I am disappointed!!!

Posted by: Sharonklim | Aug 30, 2008 4:04:44 PM

Maybe Gov. Palin's experience is relevant, maybe it isn't. We don't know. She hasn't been on the national stage for anyone - Democrat or Republican - to make an informed judgement.

The frightening thing is McCain can't possibly know either.

In his speech in Dayton yesterday where he introduced her to the nation as his V.P. nominee he told us - the viewing, American public - "Once you get to know her like I do, you'll learn what a fine person she is" (or words to that effect). But how can he know who she really is? Before choosing her as his V.P. nominee he had only met her one time before. This is the kind of fly-by-the-seat-of-your once again pants, fighter pilot decision making that could lead this country over the edge and into the abyss.

When deciding who should stand a heart beat from the most powerful job in the world, he flipped a coin.

I'm am not so much worried about Palin's readiness to be Commander-in-Chief as I am about McCain's readiness.

Governor Sarah Palin is not a reformer she is a provincial politician.

As recently as 2006 she was STRONGLY in favor of the notorious "Bridge to Nowhwere". She only reversed her position in September, 2007 after the DEMOCRATICALLY controlled Congress withdrew federal support for the project and told her - if Alaska so wnats this boondoogle let Alaska pay for it. When the question was American tax-payers footing the $160 million dollar cost she was all in favor, when she was faced with paying the bill out of her own kitty she suddenly changed her tune.

That's not reform that's someone robbing a bank until the police show up and then making a quick get away.

Posted by: M@cchiavelli | Aug 30, 2008 4:25:50 PM

How many Obama supporters have inflated their SUV tires lately and gotten a "tuneup"? What are YOU doing to stop global warming? You are just as pathetic as the "community organizer" who clings to infanticide and egocentric secularism. Let's hope you change your diapers (soon). :)

"I will give a Governor more credit for "governing" than a senator. You can be a senator for 40 years but no substantial management hands on experience."

I was going to keep my mouth shut and keep out of this, but I'm tired of this BS. Every right winger reactionary on this page is mewling about Obama's experience because Palin has been Governor and that's EXECUTIVE experience and that's all that counts - fine. Then McCain needs to concede now and put Palin as the PRESIDENTIAL nominee and himself as the VICE-PRESIDENTIAL nominee because according to YOUR OWN ARGUMENT, McCain is unqualified. HE'S NEVER HELD AN EXECUTIVE POSITION EITHER.

Christ, everybody take some freaking logic classes and come back when you've grown up.

Posted by: Nona | Aug 30, 2008 5:25:44 PM

This VP nomination definitely says a lot about the reactive posture of the McCain campaign - I dropped by a McCain campaign office here in his home state yesterday, asked someone if they had vetted here in relationship to her former brother-in-law, and was told to 'take a hike'; I hope SNL does a skit on what a 3 AM moment would look like if VP Palin had to join in during a crisis...nursing the little one in an unbuttoned Pendleton, or fending off the big boy in their effort for #6...if it was ever President Palin, God/Yahweh/Allah/Ram help us all, all 6 billion of us

Posted by: Fee Nicks | Aug 30, 2008 5:27:24 PM

A GOP... I happen to think that it's time to throw "the baby out with the bath water". Our govt. is so badly corrupted that we can't tell the good guys from the bad guys. To me, since Obama picked Biden, that tells me either Obama is a wolf in sheep's clothing (part of the problem) or is so naive he can't see he is being played by the Washington good ol' boy network. Whatever the case, all of his ideas have to do with expanding government, spending more money and taking away more of my individual rights. I know Obama said he was going to go "line by line" and eliminate programs that don't work anymore, but apparently he doesn't know that he won't have a line item veto. His lack of knowledge about what powers each of our branches of government have is truly mind boggling.
McCain is not much better, he is a liberal with an "R" beside his name, but his pick of such a wild card is very refreshing. Palin's willingness to go after members of her own party for corruption gives me hope. Just imagine on Day One in the Senate when she stands up there and tells everyone in the Senate they better be clean or she will take them down too... LOL The rats will be running like crazy. Perhaps a "Hockey Mom" is exactly what we need in Washington... maybe she'll bring her Hockey Stick with her... hahahaha I'd love to see that. Whatever the case, I highly doubt things will be the same after she gets there.

As for my "kitchen table"??? I am self employed and have been for 30 years... I don't have any employees and intend to keep it that way. I pay my own healthcare costs and pay all of my bills. I do OK.. but I am far from rich. Let's just say this... if Obama wins and lowers taxes on everybody's income of less than $250,000 a year, then I would benefit from that. It's the people and companies that I work for that would take the hit and I already know what they would HAVE to do... they would have to discontinue using my services. Right now, I am self sufficient. If I lose my income because Obama's plan raises their taxes and I lose that, then I will be in line for everyone else to pay my healthcare costs (just like Congress) and for food to go on my table. Are you ready to pay for my healthcare?

Do you really think we can afford all those programs Obama is proposing and not take a hit on "some kind of tax" on everybody who makes more than $40,000 a year? There is no way!

in any case, good luck to all and STOP ALL THE UGLY POSTS... it is making the problem worse. While you are shouting, someone will have a very good idea and nobody will hear it over your screams and rants. If we can just cut all the insults then maybe, just maybe we can get to a solution. Thanks to A GOP for acting like a decent human being.

Thomas... If you would like to have a civil conversation with me, then change your tone. It is just this kind of attitude from BOTH sides of these kind of conversations that is creating a wedge in our society..

So sad.

Marty said:
"As a Jew in Palm Beach, I must say that I am disgusted by her views. I like McCain and think he would be strongest on Israel"...

If you love Israel so much, please move there. The interests of the United States DO NOT match those of the genocidal Apartheid Zionist state built on US aid, spying, stolen technology, and phony sympathy. I can't stand McCain (or any lying, stealing politician including Obama, so don't paint me in some left/right corner), but I'm elated he didn't pick LIEberman as his VP nominee. He'd last less than a year before the independent Democrat from Tel Aviv got into the president's seat.

Well since someone wants to control freedom of speech (I assume it is a republican) I will REPOST this....again!

What individual rights is Obama trying to take from you? You’re right to take others rights or your right to greed? Your statements have no substance and are in fact fictional. Maybe you should get your flawed information you are spewing other then out of a fantasy world like the majority of the freethinking cult followers. So ignorant people choose too be.

What is so bad here? The fact that I said fantasy world or that they are a cult.

I agree!

I just had to REPOST to the my original post that I no longer see on this topic

What??? You think I was going to let that slide???

It is so much fun to watch the liberal nutcases go ballistic over McCain picking a gal from Alaska of all places to be his VP. Interestingly, she has more experience in government than the head of the democrat ticket. As far as some faulty info here, she was NEVER for the Bridge to Nowher and, in fact, stopped any action on that bridge.

The woman has charisma...she just makes you feel like the kind of person you might want to belly up to the bar with her and her husband. These are true middle class people with more "class" than some of those "Harvard types", that are elitists, never do anything that might leave a trail of actions, and yet point fingers at the "doers"...people like Sarah.
Oh...Barack was a "community activist"..so was John Gotti... ask anyone in East New York, Brooklyn. John actually did more good for working people in his neighborhood than Barack.
Just what did Barack accomplish..or is he touting results really done by others, and not the twenty something hanger on in South Chicage...??

Posted by: JoeyZ | Aug 30, 2008 10:38:06 PM

Where do they pull this crap out from? Is this coming from some republican media or getting it from the thin air in-between their ears.

The Bridge to Nowhere! After is had become known as spending some federal funding was lost. She cancelled the bridge project because Alaska's congressional delegation was unable to prevent the state of Alaska from having to pay for part of the bridge's construction. And on top of it she kept the remainder federal money for a bridge never built. That is public record! She not only lied about it but she is also a thief.

Try again with your support for this woman with your inaccurate and untruthful attempt to stoop the reality of the world with more of your lies. It is not working.

Can’t dispute fiction with a fact...hello!!!

The Bridge to Nowhere! After it had become known as wasteful spending some federal funding was lost. I'll bet a lot of middle of the road women were supporting Billary for pres and then vice-pres cause she was female. Some of them, or more, may be just as happy with Gov Palin.
And in any event, just not having to look at the wicked witch of the east anymore is a huge relief.

How vile and nasty do we have to be to each other? Why is it so important to trash a woman and her family who seem to be so genuinely American? If she has no character and has made mistakes, they will come to light. If she has not - why try to peg her with the problems?

There is a record behind McCain and Biden - both are part of our problems today. Senator Obama has very little on the record - it was interesting to see what a supporter lists as his achievements - I hadn't heard any/much of that - this is useful discussion. We are looking to him for change and hoping he is different. But when all I hear is that it's all George Bush's fault (and the Republicans of course) - I cannot help but believe that is dishonest or disingenuous. I will not accept that it's all the Democrats fault either. There is a valid point that we had a Republican controlled government for several years and things did not get better --- they DID get worse.

What I don't hear is what the Democrats would have done differently - after a horrible mass killing of over 3,000 of our citizens - even in hind site. OK, I have heard an idea or two, but nothing that immediately sounds like, "That would have really made a difference."

What I don't see in the Republicans is an apology for where they went off-track and how they intend to get back 'on-track'.

McCain is not the answer - he is actually more liberal in intents and purposes than John Kennedy. If he were running in 1964 - he would have to run as a Democrat.

I do not see anything interesting in the governments of EU countries, UK, Russia, nor China - all of these countries look to more government control to make things better. America has always stood for freedom and responsibility. We are drifting from the responsibility part. The early settlers had to do it all themselves and did. We still need to take responsibility for ourselves and trust in that - or God - or deity - or whatever you like - because once you put your faith in a government that is "the provider" rather than being of the people, for the people, by the people - we no longer have America . . . and I think that will be a sad day for whatever is left of America.

How about toning down the ridiculous and vindictive statements and making some sensible statements?

GO MCCAIN/PALIN!

Abortion is murder. NARAL is pro-death.

Global warming is NOT personmade. It is a natural recurring phenomenon. See: the Sun and its saros cycles.

Drill for more oil. Technology is readily available to do it safely.

Obama/Biden are imbeciles, unfit to lead this or any other country. Hope they go back in their cave after November 4.

Looks like ABC took the hint when the DNC sent strong men in uniform to arrest one of their photographers. The guy made the mistake of taking pictures of Fat Cat DNC donors and damn near had his arms broke for it. The poor dude wont make the mistake of playing "Journalist" again I'll bet, which can only help his career in main stream news. Now ABC is laying it on Governor Palin and re-assert itself as just another team playing propaganda outlet.

Posted by: Karpy | Aug 31, 2008 12:51:45 AM

Palin is exactly right, as Global Warming is nothing but a con and a hoax. The data is out and irrefutable. 30,000 Atmospheric scientists signed a petition stating that the data supporting the concept of "Global Warming" was corrupt and invalid. Most in fact believe the planet to be heading into a cooling period that will last over a thousand years, and nothing to do with the activity of Man. They are not the usual "scientists" that Al Gore and his like quote to support the hoax. They are not Podiatrists, Gerontologists, Gynecologists, Politicians, or movie stars. Their disciplines actually qualify them to speak on the issue, and they presented the data and the petition at the last planet worshiping money grab hosted by the UN last spring. In addition to her clear understanding of the fraud Global Warming, she has a clear, logical and adult view of America's current "Energy Crisis", and is offering the only rational way to resolve it. She wants to Drill here, and Drill Now, and she can count on our full support.

This project on a Bridge she was for. Then lies and said she was not for the project.

$233 million of our tax dollars went for The Bridge to Nowhere!

$233 million of our tax dollars never returned on a bridge never built!

$233 million of our tax dollars unaccountable!

Unbelievable!!!

Need I say more?

Abortion; the expulsion of an embryo or fetus! I assume you would also consider a miscarriage murder also. But the death penalty is not murder... right? Hypocrites!

I will never understand the irrational!

By the way; if there was global cooling then why is the polar ice melting? That’s right, it is a mental melting... right? ...just a hallucination and a figment of our imagination. And the polar bears are doing just fine.

Would be surprised if you know your own name!

Posted by: Thomas | Aug 31, 2008 2:19:53 AM

Typical famale bashing just like Hillary. If Palin was a male people would be treating her differently and with more respect. How many governors really have foreign policy experience, none. I never hear anyone saying Biden is from a small tiny state Delaware home of the credit card companies that he helped author bankruptcy reform against its card holders. Palin is getting s*****d by the media and Obama Democrats just like Hillary. Hillary had more experience than Obama but he tossed her aside like many strong females.

Posted by: edabel | Aug 31, 2008 2:58:19 AM

McCain picks a rightwing religious mental midget that would make most hardcore conservatives seem very liberal. Smooth move, John.

Posted by: DennisNC | Aug 31, 2008 3:13:23 AM

"If Palin was a male people would be treating her differently and with more respect."

Hah! Well all I can say is that if Palin were a male, she wouldn't have been considered in the first place! John McCain selected her as a short term political ploy to try and steal Hillary supporters away from Obama. Oh, and I suppose to shore up Alaska, which we can assume will now remain in the GOP column this November. It's a Hail Mary pass by McCain - and we're only in the first half. Mark my words: watch Palin crash and burn in the next two months. It's going to be fun to watch.

I'm voting for McCain/Palin

Here's what Camille Paglia had to say..."We may be seeing the first woman president. As a Democrat, I am reeling,” said Camille Paglia, the cultural critic. “That was the best political speech I have ever seen delivered by an American woman politician. Palin is as tough as nails.”

Nice unbiased "reporting" by ABC. To deny "man-made" global warming is GOP "dobma". And just a few paragraphs below they note that the nod to global warming in the new GOP platform. Having it both ways if fun, isn't it. Don't expect ABC to mention this website www.petitionproject.org on which over 30,000 American scientists have denied man made global warming, notwithstanding the GOPs political hedge. Our media is such a joke.

To anyone believing the poster touting that "global warming is a hoax," I find it quite amusing that their website was created THIS YEAR, and is owned and operated by a man living in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, isn't this the same state which McCain is the United States Senator?

What a mental case!

I can't wait for some cheesy porn photos to come out of young Sarah Palin in dominatrix get up with a swastika tattooed above her cooch- she's just that kind of woman.

Posted by: orkin | Aug 31, 2008 10:07:01 PM

Sarah Palin smiles a lot, very much like Cindy McCain. She has that beauty pageant contestant smile that never varies, and so she was a beauty pageant contestant as was Cindy McCain, and it bothers me. She's been thrust into the national arena, and she cannot seem to vary that smile, at least in the photos and TV I've seen. She didn't "hit the ground running" because she isn't ready for Prime Time Foreign Policy and so didn't appear on Sunday's political talk shows. The smile, that smile, it bothers me. How in the world does anyone expect a Hillary supporter to vote for an anti-abortion candidate like Palin? is a question that puzzles me. I suspect, under the smile, she is ruthless as her nickname "Barracuda" seems to imply, and that would mask any real emotion and any real open reaction.

Posted by: OCPatriot | Aug 31, 2008 11:19:15 PM

Prior to Mr. 30,000 link to his website I did call him out on the source so I may lookup these 30,000 Atmospheric scientists’ names degrees and universities they attended.

And yet another post of mine that was removed!

Moving on!

This is what this Repuke is advocating in regards to this twisted concept or reality... and I quote;
“Environmental Effects of Increased Atmospheric Carbon Dioxide
A review of the research literature concerning the environmental consequences of increased levels of atmospheric carbon dioxide leads to the conclusion that increases during the 20th Century have produced no deleterious effects upon global weather, climate, or temperature. Increased carbon dioxide has, however, markedly increased plant growth rates. Predictions of harmful climatic effects due to future increases in minor greenhouse gases like CO2 are in error and do not conform to current experimental knowledge.”
http://www.oism.org/pproject/
End quote!
And this...whatever you prefer to call him is advocating a website that claims the unnatural major increase of CO2 from the burning of fossil fuels is good for plant life. The very plant life we are cutting down to make room for agriculture (I am not even going to go into sediment run off). The agriculture that is threatened by droughts and floods do to global warming. Shall I go into the effects on the oceans and sea life?

You people are insane and a threat on the human, animal and plant life. Basically a threat to ALL life as we know it! And then you call yourself pro life...unbelievable!

Anyway; nice cheesy unprofessional and phony website you have there......try again! By the way...do you know what fraud and libel is? You should as that is what you are all about. Shall I dig deeper into this site and these hypothetical 30,000 Atmospheric scientists’ names? Perhaps I should recruit some help in the investigation of this website. Although I can already come to the assumption that these 30,000 Atmospheric scientists on global warming are a hoax and most likely 30,000 ways of being full of.............

Republicans keep posting this crap of yours for YOU represent YOUR party well!!!!

Here is some reality:

Global warming effects

Wow, and I thought she was just a dummy. It's good to see that at least she has one positive point - she hasn't fallen for the pseudoscience of anthropomorphic global warming. Kinda surprising from someone who also thinks that creationism should be taught in science classes.

McCain VP Choice Is Religious Right Money Play To Fund McCain! McCain Is Putting Religious Right Over the Country First!

McCain has proven he has no judgment and has sold out to the Religious Right! Forget putting Country first; McCain is putting the Religious Right First! The new McCain campaign slogan now is “The Country First move over, the Religious Right is Taking Over”. This VP choice is a money play for the Religious Right to fund McCain! Today McCain is saying anyone can be President if they buy McCain’s vote with his nobody pick of Palin for VP. An old lobbyist turns to the money base with his VP choice! Big money is already rolling into McCain’s coffers from the Religious Right!

McCain has sold out to the Religious Right! If Palin is qualified to be VP, then I am qualified too! Palin is no Hillary Clinton! Palin is an insult and affront to woman rights and woman liberation! Kevin Kline did it best in the Movie “In and Out” about a gay teacher shunned by the religious right. The movie ends with everyone supporting the teacher saying “I am gay too”! In this case everyone should be saying “If Palin is qualified to be VP, then I am too”! Rush Limbaugh would be a more qualified VP candidate! This VP choice is a money play for the Religious Right to fund McCain!

Hello! We just had a Richter 11.0 Religious Right earthquake and the news says that it is novel and was a surprise! McCain’s Religious Right VP pick is so totally outrageously unqualified it is pathetic! David Gergen of CNN is one of the only analysts shocked at the totally unqualified selection of Palin by McCain. McCain picked a VP for the Religious Right who was a mayor of a tiny town less than two years ago and has a few months as “governor” of the tiny state population of 673,000 which is less than the population of the Twin Cities area! An old lobbyist turns to the money base with his VP choice! McCain has sold out to the Religious Right!

Hello! Anybody with any common sense out there! McCain just picked an incompetent VP for the Religious Right to perform the most important job in the world and the news reaction is to repeatedly say they are “surprised” at the “interesting” selection as if it was some novel story about Hockey Moms! Has the news media gone off a cliff! The Religious Right just selected McCain’s VP and proves McCain is owned by the Religious Right! The new McCain campaign slogan now is “The Country First move over, the Religious Right is Taking Over”. McCain has sold out to the Religious Right!

We just witnessed the complete total incompetence of cable news media to report this VP disaster by the GOP Religious Right as a human interest spin story! The only interest is WHO IS CONTROLLING THE MEDIA SPIN! The Religious Right represents a small fraction of the population, but one would think that it was 80% or more listening today to the cable news programming! The cable media has joined McCain in the Religious Right LA-La land! This VP choice is a money play for the Religious Right to fund McCain!

Palin must be dumb as a box of rocks as revealed in this staggering MSNBC interview where she did not even understand what the VP position meant! “As for the prospect of her being vice president, Palin told Kudlow that she could not answer the question of whether she wanted the job “until somebody answers for me what is it exactly that the VP does every day. I’m used to being very productive and working real hard in an administration. We want to make sure that that VP slot would be a fruitful type of position, especially for Alaskans and for the things that we’re trying to accomplish up here.” Talk about a ditto head bimbo! A perfect mindless beauty pageant contestant!

What is most horrifying is that the media and Cable News has suddenly become the Religious Right Cable News network in support of the religious right zealot conservative Palin! The news programming has become a bad episode of the “Twilight Zone”. Suddenly 80% of the news programming is Religious Right “human Interest” stories, i.e., GOP Spin Propaganda! It is offensive and insulting that McCain and the Religious Right delude themselves to even pretend that Palin would attract even one Hillary Vote! An old lobbyist turns to the money base with his VP choice!

The cable media and Religious Right clearly knows exactly how pathetic the McCain VP choice is and how pathetic their biased news coverage has been! Even an idiot knows you don’t pick a small town mayor for the most important job in the world! So the question is WHO IS CONTROLLING THE NEWS MEDIA SPIN! This VP pick is a power play by the Religious Right to run the Country!

The Religious Right are now running the GOP show of lies, smears, and deception! Palin is a Saudi Hockey Mom who runs a charity welfare State paid for 85% by our Federal funding tax dollars! The oil and gas in Alaska is on Federal land and owned by the Federal government. It is easy to run a charity state paid for by Federal tax money! Let Alaska pay their way like every other state, and her incompetence will be glaring. Alaska is a giant welfare State to the tune of 85% of their budget! This VP choice is a money play for the Religious Right to fund McCain!

Palin is a bad Religious Right joke running a charity state and pretending to be a fiscal conservative. All Palin wants is more money for Big Oil, like McCain and Bush. Palin lobbies to get every Federal handout she can get. Palin strongly supported the Bridge to Nowhere in 2006 until it became a national embarrassment. The Anchorage Daily News quoted her on Oct. 22, 2006, as saying yes, she would continue state funding for the bridge because she wanted swift action on infrastructure projects. "The window is now while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist," she said. Palin and Alaska receive 85% of their income from our national resources. All revenue from sale of national resources should be used to reduce the national debt and should not be used to fund the State budget or Big Oil. Follow the Religious Right and oil money! This VP choice is a money play for the Religious Right to fund McCain!

The public should be reminded that Palin, like the Religious Right, thinks global warming is a myth and wants creationism taught in schools! McCain is now owned by the Religious Right! The stark denial of the fact of global warming and science of evolution is not surprising considering Palin is a journalism major, Religious Right zealot, and supports Big Oil. All Palin want to do, like the GOP, is to drill for more oil to get more of our money from our national resources for her State and Big Oil. Now the Religious Right wants to run our Country! This Religious Right power play by McCain must be exposed for the disastrous choice it represents! This VP choice is a money play for the Religious Right to fund McCain!

For those who say Palin is right on the global warming issue, are you saying McCain is wrong?

So, McBush picks this woman with out chekin her out, all the time the Republicans attack dogs like hannity talk about experiance and vetting. Now the good gov. lets it out that her kid is prego. So much for the abstinence movment. You know what they say about keep trying things the do not work. No Hillary voter will vote for her. I bet you will see the strong face but if you could hear what is being said in the repubs smoke fill rooms would be "what the hell is McBush thinking.
I bet McCain is even looking at having Palin removing her name from the ballet. It would be the smartest thing that she could do but I doubt she will.
Maybe if she would stop worring if someone was having an abortion and gave her kid a condom this would have not happened.

As long as the top of the Democratic ticket keeps struggling to out-qualify the bottom of the Republican ticket, its a win for McCain.

I'm a Hillary supporter and I don't feel insulted at all. In fact, I was debating whether to vote for McCain or not vote at all (voting for Obama is not an option!). I was waiting to see who he announced as his running mate, I'm impressed and I'm now firmly behind McCain. Obama supporters are jumping through hoops to spin this one. They are really scared! Great choice!
