Infused in this classic Stereolab foundation are some extremely animated horn arrangements from long time collaborator Sean O’Hagen, who hear manages to send Fred Wesley and Maceo Parker through the Brian Wilson sonic kaleidoscope! Gracing this elixir of blissed out grandeur is another Stereolab hallmark – the dove-like French lyricism of Laetitia Sadier who as always is in fine form. Not to be mistaken with a track on the bubbly 60’s inspired new Beck release, Chemical Chords also digs deep into the roots of pop psychedelic era as 60’s Doo Wop and symphonic Beach Boys arrangements are through into the enchanted mix with stunning results. There are a couple of gems that've come into the store in the last two weeks that warrant staff blog-kudos. Firstly, the BLANK DOGS On Two Sides LP is killer. This one man bedroom noise pop record succeeds in referencing a disparate selection of some of the hippest sounds of the last 20 years -- Fall, Young Marble Giants, the Cure, Joy Division, Nice Strong Arm -- and yet still comes off sounding confident, mature, and totally its own thing. The dude has a blog that contains posts of pretty much all of his recorded output, like a bunch of 7's that are now out of print, but if you want to be cool you have to leave your computer and buy the vinyl. Not sure how long Troubleman will keep it in print. The other one: EAT SKULL Sick To Death LP from Siltbreeze. The cover art is so idiotic as to initially turn me off, but the music is highly redeeming. Gnarled, trebley pop that owes a significant debt to The Clean, but this can be forgiven because The Clean are awesome, and also this vibe hasn't been totally aped to death. EAT SKULL are part of that whole Times New Viking/Psychedelic Horseshit type thing that is semi popular in the blogosphere right now. There it is. Embrace the sound of the New Wave Of American Noise Pop.

I had an interesting discussion this morning about the way a band functions when under the microscope of media attention. Navigating the high wires of success Vampire Weekend (this week's Zulu Top Seller) have 3 months to balance the hype before the show rolls into Vancouver's Richards on Richards. Regardless on where you stand on these guys, it is nice to see music as the cultural thermometer of the times.

This show is guaranteed to sell out as Seattle's Fleet Foxes have generated an impressive buzz with their distinct dreamy folk-rock aesthetic. Imagine Fairport Convention through the My Morning Jacket kaleidoscope and you might get an accurate starting point for the reverby introspection that is this now band!

D.C. Berman is considered on of the best "writers" in contemporary indie-rock. We agree. Dubbed "a reclusive figure" really one starts to wonder how much is insular tendencies and how much is not being impressed with the captive media that covers his dense poetics... he has more to do with William Carlos Williams than he does Lee Hazelwood. Still, this is a night of rare sonic beauty - not to be missed.
