NEW RELEASE: Junior Boys "In The Morning"
Ferrofluid is so 2007. Shortly after the magnetic grey goo — which can do all sorts of fun things — made a prominent and weird appearance in a video for Seventeen Evergreen, it — or, more precisely, its CG equivalent — pops up in this Jaron Albertin-helmed piece for Canadian electronic duo Junior Boys. "In the Morning" features a trio of hipsters scuttling around the streets of Toronto and then succumbing to what looks like an outbreak of scurvy. As they collapse, each character issues a puddle's worth of something that looks and acts a lot like ferrofluid as it shines and devours them. It's a peculiar video, though not surprising given Albertin's surreal take on things. (review by Kevin Holy) --> watch "In The Morning"

NEW RELEASE: Rise Against "The Good Left Undone"
Rise Against escaped the underground quite some time ago, but there they are again, literally, in this hazy effects heavy video for "The Good Left Undone." The band members are all buried beneath the soil, serving as the roots for a field of flowers. A girl frolics about, plucking flowers and thereby allowing sunlight to pour into these subterranean pockets, but the video ends before we see if the band is able to connect with the youngster. --> watch "The Good Left Undone"

NEW RELEASE: Yung Joc "Coffee Shop"
Rap has changed a lot in recent years, with kiddie rhymes and sing-song hooks replacing the menace of street thugs. Now we have Yung Joc — who has always come across as harder than hard – doing the joke rap thing. The video works perfectly with the track, including comedic appearances by Joc as a bevy of characters that includes Dorf On Rap, Eddie Murphy in The Klumps and possibly even the Prince sketch from Chappelle’s Show. Director Lenny Bass strikes the right tone with kids helping the rapper(s) sell rims and lattes – disguising the fact that song is really about pushing something just a bit more, um, addictive. NEW RELEASE: Straylight Run "...Living In The Future"
It ain't magic that makes all those objects disappear in the Straylight Run video "Soon We'll Be Living In The Future." It also ain't green screen. Director Travis Kopach — who also delivered a trippy little clip for the band's "Hands In The Sky" — explains the why and the how for this video about literally packing away your memories and emotional baggage...
Travis Kopach, director: "Emotion doesn't exist in green screen. Emotion exists in a tangible piece of set that you can grab and feel. With that in mind we set out to create a completely practical illusion with four 20 x 20 foot sets built four feet off the ground and a lot of locked off camera shots that allowed us to 'split the frame' in the edit and shoot with emotion. Those camera/edit tricks — plus the scenes where we juxtaposed this amazing song against a projection screen of rolling clouds — make up my second video for this band that I absolutely adore."

NEW RELEASE: SMatka "Wrong Love"
Latex, chainsaws, midgets and an s&m menagerie of characters — including a penguin, Nosferatu and some geishas — all come together in this random, yet entertainingly outrageous video from Germany. Director Gero Von Braunmühl casts techoshock singer SMatka in a succession of perverted and not quite pornographic set-ups that are definitely creepy, but never scary — or even erotic, really — thanks to a playful and almost comedic tone. It's as if the message is: Fetishes are fun. Makes sense, since a good portion of the budget was apparently contributed by German latex design company Fetish Universe — who would probably be very happy if you clicked through to buy that sweet "Bat Guy" mask and a pair of assless chaps. Another quite weird aspect of all this is that this is an award-winning clip. Director GvB was honored on-stage — alongside fellow winners Pedro Almodovar, Oliver Stone and Forest Whitaker — for winning the Best Music Video category at the 10th Annual Hollywood Film Festival. --> watch "Wrong Love" below (note: there is some nudity, so let's call this be unsafe for work)
