Core Duo Toshiba notebook for $1,250

Toshiba dual core notebookWhen I heard about the new dual core CPUs from Intel, I immediately panicked and figured the falling prices of notebook was about to reverse. Then I see this info on MobileWhack about Toshiba’s A105-S4014 for $1,400. I looked and found the A105-S4004 for even less. The 15.4-inch WXGA notebook runs on a 1.66GHz Core Duo processor, features a TruBrite display, has Windows Media Center installed, and includes 1 Gigabyte of RAM. Toshiba crammed a 100 GB drive, obligatory WiFi and a writeable DVD drive as well. The Intel 950 GMA will get you by on graphics for most everything you need, but if you’re a hard-core gamer, this might be an issue. Regardless, all of this for $1,250 direct from Toshiba is a sweet mobile deal. Oops, did I mention that Microsoft OneNote 2003 is pre-installed too?

Is Gateway’s new NX100 notebook an “ultra-portable”? We don’t think so, but it’s not a bad notebook for $1,650. Say hi to the “eo”, although we think it should be dubbed the “gobi”. What do you think? Looks like Kevin was wrong and Toshiba will not be entering the UMPC market at this time. Hmm…..
